• Awakening Hope: Loving Someone in Addiction Without Losing Yourself
    Oct 21 2026

In this episode of Sober Witch Life, Sunshine Witchski explores one of the most heartbreaking challenges of recovery: loving someone who continues to struggle with addiction while protecting your own sobriety, healing, and peace.

As the holiday season approaches, Sunshine reflects on how sobriety transforms relationships with friends, family, and loved ones, especially when drinking and substance use have been central to those connections. She discusses the grief of creating distance, the frustration of watching others suffer, and the difficult realization that compassion can sometimes become control.

Drawing from her personal recovery journey and her work as a peer recovery coach, Sunshine shares how we can support others without taking responsibility for their healing. She introduces the 13th Step of the Witch's Steps to Recovery, a spiritual commitment to ritual and spellwork for collective healing from addiction.

Through her Awakening Hope rituals, Sunshine encourages witches to use prayer, intention, and magick to inspire courage and possibility rather than attempting to control another person's choices.

The central message: We cannot force someone into recovery, but we can offer compassion, maintain healthy boundaries, and awaken hope while honoring their sovereignty.

    Key Themes

    • Navigating relationships with loved ones experiencing addiction
    • Grief, boundaries, and emotional challenges during the holidays

  • Title: Grief, Surrender, and Seven Years of Sobriety: Learning to Feel It All
    Oct 13 2026

In this deeply personal episode of the Sober Witch Life Podcast, Sunshine Witchski reflects on the heartbreaking loss of her beloved kitten, Dexter, who passed away at just ten months old. His passing coincided with her seven-year sobriety anniversary, turning what should have been a celebration into a time of grief, anger, guilt, and reflection.

Through Dexter’s story, Sunshine explores how recovery has taught her to face difficult emotions without escaping through alcohol or other unhealthy coping mechanisms. She reflects on the subtle ways addiction can resurface, including the urge to stay busy, overthink, or control situations to avoid feeling pain.

The episode also explores the relationship between spirituality and grief, reminding listeners that surrender does not mean accepting every painful experience without anger or questioning. Even when we believe there is a deeper spiritual meaning behind our experiences, we are still allowed to feel heartbroken, disappointed, and unprepared to let go.

Ultimately, Sunshine shares a powerful reminder that recovery isn't about creating a life without pain; it's about learning to stay present through it without abandoning ourselves. Through grief, vulnerability, and the support of a loving community, we can learn to feel everything, honor our losses, and allow ourselves to be held by others when life becomes overwhelming.

  • The High of Love: When Connection Becomes Compulsion
    Sep 8 2026

Shannon Torrance, host of Magic Israel, shares her nearly 20-year journey in recovery from sex, love, and fantasy addiction. She opens up about how addiction was not simply about sex or relationships, but about a deeper need for validation, safety, self-worth, and connection.

Through her story, Shannon explains how obsessive relationships and fantasy thinking became compulsive ways of escaping loneliness and seeking external validation. Recovery eventually helped her recognize that the real work was learning to love herself, establish boundaries, understand her patterns, and reconnect with her purpose.

She discusses finding support through Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA), therapy, sponsorship, accountability, and community. Over time, she learned that sobriety isn't simply about stopping a behavior—it also means becoming emotionally sober, regulated, self-loving, and intentional about how we live.

The conversation also explores spirituality, purpose, self-abandonment, and the idea that recovery can be a process of shedding the layers that disconnect us from who we truly are. Shannon shares how reconnecting with spirituality and learning to trust a higher power helped her release the need for control and live with greater peace.

Ultimately, Shannon's story is one of healing, self-discovery, spiritual growth, and hope—a reminder that no matter how deeply someone is caught in addiction or compulsive behavior, recovery can lead to a life filled with greater peace, purpose, connection, and self-love.

  • All You Have to Do Is Ask: Trinity’s Journey Through Addiction, Spirituality & Recovery
    Sep 3 2026

Trinity shares how her addiction began unexpectedly in her late thirties while she was living in an abusive marriage. Although alcohol and medication became the substances she struggled with, recovery helped her recognize earlier patterns of codependency, people-pleasing, masking, and seeking validation from others.

After repeated attempts at treatment and periods of relapse, Trinity experienced a medical crisis that she describes as a near-death experience. While hospitalized, injured, and feeling completely alone, she surrendered to the Goddess and asked for help. She says that moment lifted the consuming obsession to drink, although occasional cravings still arise.

Her early recovery involved major life changes, reading the AA Big Book, prayer, meditation, and eventually attending meetings and working the Twelve Steps. Because traditional recovery spaces sometimes felt overly Christian, Trinity began transforming the Steps into pagan rituals. She describes ritual as “prayer with props” and believes witches can use familiar spiritual practices to deepen their recovery.

    The conversation explores:

    • How addiction can begin with codependency, masking, and the desire to be chosen
    • Why surrender is difficult in a culture that celebrates control and independence
    • Using prayer, meditation, ritual, and personification to respond to cravings
    • Adapting the Twelve Steps through witchcraft and pagan spirituality
    • The healing power of meetings, community, and relationships with other people in recovery
    • Why recovering out loud helps reduce shame and shows others where support is available
    • The importance of daily “spiritual hygiene” and conscious contact with a higher power
    • Learning to experience grief, depression, and difficult emotions without escaping through substances
    • Passing recovery, not only the risk of addiction, on to the next generation

Trinity’s central message is that relapse does not make someone hopeless or unworthy. Recovery remains available, and people can keep trying without shame. Her story ultimately emphasizes surrender, spiritual connection, service, community, and the willingness to ask for help.

Listeners can find Trinity through Esoteria LLC on YouTube for Twelve-Step tarot, meditations, rituals, and spiritual recovery content.

  • The Rules We Make to Keep Drinking: Moderation, Fear, and Choosing a Beautiful Life
    Aug 25 2026

In this episode of the Sober Witch Life podcast, Sunshine reflects on the complicated stories we tell ourselves when we are trying to control our drinking instead of questioning our relationship with alcohol altogether. After discovering old Facebook memories from a 40-day attempt to give up alcohol for Lent, she recognizes just how much mental energy once went into negotiating rules, exceptions, limits, and loopholes around drinking.

Through personal stories of moderation attempts, blackouts, anxiety, grief, trauma, and eventually recovery, Sunshine explores the tension between what the body, mind, ego, and spirit may be telling us. She examines why the familiar can feel safer than change, even when the familiar is hurting us, and why sobriety can feel frightening when we focus only on everything we might lose.

Ultimately, this episode reframes recovery not as a life of deprivation, but as the choice to create a beautiful life. Sometimes that beautiful life is extraordinary transformation. Sometimes it is simply safety, authenticity, meaningful relationships, peaceful mornings, coffee, birds, and no longer having to negotiate with the thing that is hurting you.

  • The Vision for Witches Recovery: Building a Community That Keeps Us Connected, Grounded, and Sober
    Aug 18 2026

In this episode of the Sober Witch Life Podcast, Sunshine Witchski shares an update on the growing Witches Recovery Circles and the larger vision behind the Sober Witch Life movement. What began with just two people has grown into regular recovery meetings with participants joining from different places. Sunshine shares her dream of eventually having recovery meetings available every day—and ultimately creating a space where a witch or magically spiritual person can find recovery support whenever they need it.

A major part of making this vision possible is training more facilitators who can lead recovery circles and help expand the community. Sunshine discusses the facilitator training program, the support and resources provided to facilitators, and the need for more people willing to step forward and serve.

She also reflects deeply on her own recovery journey, approaching seven years of sobriety, and the importance of continuing to do the inner work rather than assuming that time alone means recovery is complete. For Sunshine, the recovery circles provide accountability, connection, vulnerability, and a safe place to confront things that may otherwise remain hidden.

The episode ultimately becomes a reflection on service, community, healing, and personal growth. Sunshine explains that her role is evolving toward training facilitators and helping others bring recovery, healing, and connection to more people. She also shares upcoming opportunities, including facilitator training, Sober Witch Camp, retreats, and sober programming at Convocation.

Core message: Recovery doesn't end when you reach a certain number of sober years. It is an ongoing journey of self-awareness, connection, healing, service, and choosing to keep moving forward—together.

  • Recovery Beyond Sobriety
    Aug 11 2026

In this episode of The Sober Witch Life, I sit down with Justin for a deep conversation about addiction, recovery, trauma, spirituality, and what it really means to build a life beyond simply putting down a substance.

Justin shares how childhood trauma, emotional sensitivity, anger, depression, and the desire to escape shaped a relationship with alcohol and drugs that began in his early teens and continued in different forms throughout adulthood. We explore how substance use can become incredibly easy to justify, especially when it seems to help us numb emotional pain, cope with stress, manage physical discomfort, or simply function in a life that feels overwhelming.
