One of my mentors in the CFO space, Michael King, has this saying: "Revenue is vanity, profit is sanity, cash is king".
I, of course, like to make it cash is QUEEN.
What does this mean?
Revenue is a vanity metric, kind of like likes & follows on IG. Sure, they're nice to see, but does it really make or break your business? Nope.
Profit is sanity. When your business is in the black, you are making profit. That means the bills are paid, you’re paid, the employees are paid, all is well. There’s even some left over. You are sane.
