Día de la canción criolla (Creole Song Day)? Being from Peru and living in the US means that throughout our lives we’ve celebrated both Halloween and Dia de la cancion criolla. In this episode we give you a rundown of our favorite experiences celebrating each one!

Luciana and Claudia Valdiviezo know what it’s like to move to the U.S. – twice. They were born in Peru and lived there for only a few years until their parents moved the family to the U.S. The sisters kept in touch with their roots, speaking Spanish at home and every Christmas when they visited Peru for the holidays. Then, when they were 12 and 11 respectively, the family moved back to Peru. Growing up both Peruvian and American during those formative years gave Luciana and Claudia a deep understanding of what it means to belong, and not belong, at the same time.

The sisters eventually moved back to the U.S. Luciana is a marketing professional living in Washington D.C. with her husband and two young children. Claudia is a writer living in New York City.

So, we’ve moved around a bit. Which means we’ve experienced life in a handful of different countries and loved living in each one so much! But why? What were our favorite things about each one of the countries we lived in? In this episode we share our favorite aspects of each place: Peru, Mexico, UK, and US.

Gerald Filmore is a Spanish-British-American filmmaker, screenwriter, and actor based in LA. After leaving school at 16 in Zaragoza, he came up through theatre, sketch comedy, and shorts, eventually making his way into writing for TV in Madrid.

Twelve years ago he moved to LA, where he founded a production company that this year launched its first feature film. The movie was shot in English (Face Love) and then again in Spanish (Amor en toda la cara).

We spoke with Gerald about making the same movie twice, adaptation vs translation, growing up part British-American in Spain, and embracing the Latino community in LA.
