This episode is a bit different. It is not research heavy by any means, unless you consider self reflection research (it kinda is). I step into a place of vulnerability that allows me to explore the binaries of gender, race, religion, capitalism and even love as it relates to my life. I am stepping out of society's imagination and into my own by living the life that I want and loving myself more.

Guided by the minds of James Baldwin and Nikki Giovanni, here is the source for the audio clippings you hear throughout the episode. The ending remarks by Baldwin are from an unknown source.

In the season 2 premiere, I discuss the recent developments around Facebook and whistleblower Frances Haugen, former product manager on Facebook’s civic integrity team. I draw on research from my own undergraduate capstone: Post-Modern Monopolies: Big Data, Big Tech and New Media in the Era of Surveillance Capitalism Today in conjunction with the congressional testimony and 60 minutes interview with Frances Haugen.

In this episode I talk about the Black awakening in America during Obama's presidency, the illusion of justice that was revealed through this time and how we move from #BlackLivesMatter to Black Liberation and ultimately the liberation of humanity from capitalist and imperialist powers.

The primary source of this episode is #BlackLivesMatter to Black Liberation by Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor

Winner of the 2016 Lannan Cultural Freedom Prize for an Especially Notable Book

“Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor's searching examination of the social, political and economic dimensions of the prevailing racial order offers important context for understanding the necessity of the emerging movement for black liberation.”
—Michelle Alexander

Book Description via Haymarket Books: "The eruption of mass protests in the wake of the police murders of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri and Eric Garner in New York City have challenged the impunity with which officers of the law carry out violence against Black people and punctured the illusion of a postracial America. The Black Lives Matter movement has awakened a new generation of activists.

In this stirring and insightful analysis, activist and scholar Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor surveys the historical and contemporary ravages of racism and persistence of structural inequality such as mass incarceration and Black unemployment. In this context, she argues that this new struggle against police violence holds the potential to reignite a broader push for Black liberation."

In the first episode of a four part series titled: Black Liberation and Freedom of all Oppressed Peoples, I talk about COINTELPRO. Which was a government sanctioned operation aimed to undermine the Black Panther Party and other socialist organizations in various ways from propaganda to violence to out right assassinations. In this episode I dive into the inter-workings of COINTELPRO, the effect of the Vietnam War on leftist organizations, the Democratic National Convention in Chicago 1968, and the role of the FBI,CIA, and presidential administrations (Johnson and Nixon). The premise is to show the extent in which the government went to prevent Black liberation and Class consciousness. The source for this podcast was Black Against Empire: The History and Politics of the Black Panther Party by Joshua Bloom and Waldo E. Martin, Jr.

In this special episode, I take a clip from an interview I conducted with Nathan Hale Williams, who is directed, adapted, and produced a dramatic reading of George M. Johnson's book "All Boys Aren't Blue" . This interview occurred on the Kendall Moore Show in Chicago and we discussed the representation of Black, Queer, Non-Binary folks in the media as the book is based on George Johnson's experience growing up with those identities.
