The selfie was never the problem. It was a simple way of saying, “I was here.”But somewhere along the way, something changed. The destination became the backdrop, culture became a prop, and the experience became content. In this episode of As I See It, Pete George reflects on what happens when travelling becomes less about seeing a place and more about being seen in it. Drawing on decades behind a camera and his experiences in Bali, Pete asks whether we've become so focused on capturing and sharing the moment that we've forgotten to actually experience it. Because perhaps the question isn't whether a photograph will get attention. It's whether it honours the place you're standing in.
