• Ep: 86 Behind the Holiday Magic - Jeff Plate from Trans-Siberian Orchestra
    Oct 21 2026

Behind the Holiday Magic: Jeff Plate of Trans-Siberian Orchestra
The thunder of the drums, the soaring melodies, the dazzling lights - Trans-Siberian Orchestra has helped turn the holiday season into an unforgettable musical experience! In this upcoming episode of What’s Good with John & Joyce, we welcome longtime TSO drummer Jeff Plate for a conversation about his musical journey and the story behind the spectacular band.
A native of upstate New York, Jeff’s career took him through Boston’s rock scene with the band Wicked Witch before he joined Savatage in 1994. That opportunity would become a bridge to Trans-Siberian Orchestra, placing him behind the drums from TSO’s earliest recordings and its first tours. His musical résumé also includes work with Metal Church, guitarist Chris Caffery, and violinist Mark Wood.
Founded in 1996 by composer, lyricist, and producer Paul O’Neill, TSO grew out of his collaborations with Savatage and a creative team that included Jon Oliva, Robert Kinkel, and Al Pitrelli. Their bold vision brought together rock, classical music, and theatrical storytelling. With its debut album, Christmas Eve and Other Stories, and the unforgettable “Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24),” TSO introduced listeners to a powerful new sound that became synonymous with the holidays.
Join us as we get to know the musician behind the drum kit and explore the passion, dedication, and imagination behind TSO’s enduring appeal. Whether you’re a longtime fan or discovering their music for the first time, this is your invitation to meet Jeff Plate and celebrate the power of music to bring people together.
