Have you ever rehearsed a conversation in your head before it even happened?
You imagine what someone might say, how they might react, what you'll say in response, and how you'll explain yourself if things get uncomfortable.
And before you know it, you're already feeling anxious, defensive, or frustrated about a conversation that hasn't even taken place.
I've done this myself, especially when anticipating judgment from people close to me.
In this episode, I'm exploring what happens when we start responding to the story we've created about a situation rather than what's actually happening in front of us.
We'll look at how our thoughts can influence how we feel, how those feelings affect the way we show up, and how our attempts to protect ourselves can sometimes contribute to the very experiences we're trying to avoid.
Because sometimes, the conversation you're preparing for isn't the only thing making you uncomfortable. You're already having it in your head.
In this episode, you'll explore:
- Why we rehearse conversations and anticipate other people's reactions.
- How the stories we tell ourselves can influence our emotions and behavior.
- The difference between preparing for a difficult conversation and experiencing it in advance.
- How to return to the present instead of reacting to something that hasn't happened yet.
