• Sarah’s Last 1%: Making Space to Finally Finish
    Sep 22 2026

Have you ever organized a space… only to be left with one random pile of stuff you have absolutely no idea what to do with?

    That’s where Sarah is stuck.

After making amazing progress on a hallway closet that had collected years of clutter, she’s left with the final 1%: gift cards, spare keys, buttons, shells, memorabilia, mystery objects, and all those little things that don’t have an obvious home.

And this is the part where Sarah says she always fails.

In this organizing session, we work through that last pile together, and discover that finishing isn’t just about making a few more decisions.

Some things need a home. Some need a system. Some are waiting for a project that may or may not ever happen. And some are tangled up with memories, old wounds, and beliefs about what we’re supposed to save and pass on to the people we love.

Along the way, Sarah realizes why she’s had such a hard time getting to the end of her organizing projects, and practices something she says she’s never really done before: finishing 100% of her organizing project.

    In this episode, we explore:

    • Why the last 1% of clutter can be harder than the first 99%
    • How starting with the easiest decisions can build momentum
    • Using short time limits to make overwhelming projects feel doable
    • Why objects without homes often point to systems we haven’t created yet
    • How body doubling can help us stay with uncomfortable tasks
    • How family patterns and past experiences can affect what we’re willing to let go of
    • How to handle those truly mysterious leftover items
    • Why putting everything away is part of organizing and not something to leave for later

Sarah begins this session believing, “This is the part where I fail.”

But she ends it with an empty floor, and the realization that she didn’t give up, even when she desperately wanted to.

  • Lanie's Storage Room: Making Space for Everyday Life
    Sep 15 2026

Lanie has a storage room that’s trying to do a lot.

It holds household overflow, things to sell, art supplies, and all the stuff that doesn’t quite have another place to go. But Lanie wants it to be more than storage. She dreams of creating a space where she can work, make art, and reconnect with a creative side of herself that’s starting to return after becoming a mom.

The problem? Just walking into the room feels overwhelming.

    So, we start small.

In this episode, Lanie and I figure out what she actually wants from the space, tackle a few surprisingly complicated categories, and use a strategy I call triage to make progress without having to organize everything at once.

Along the way, we talk about ADHD, why one “simple” organizing project can actually be dozens of smaller projects, the value of a good maybe box, and why sometimes 70% is more than enough.

And as we keep working together, we begin to learn something neither of us expected when we started.

    In this episode, we’ll explore:

    • What to do when a room feels too overwhelming to start
    • How to triage a cluttered space before organizing it
    • Why “no new projects” can be a helpful organizing rule
    • Making decisions when getting rid of something isn’t so simple
    • Why 70% accuracy can be enough to make real progress
    • ADHD, time, energy, and the hidden work inside organizing
    • Knowing when to rethink the plan

  • Cece's Storage Units: Making Space to Bring It All Home
    Sep 8 2026

What happens when you finally empty your storage units…and then have to deal with everything you brought home?

Cece has been part of my Chaos to Calm Community for years, and we’ve also worked together privately at different points along the way. Recently, she bought a home of her own and decided it was time to close down the two storage units she’d been paying for and bring everything home.

    There was just one problem.

Eight months later, a big pile of that stuff was still sitting under a tarp in her backyard.

Cece knew she needed to deal with it. She also knew there were boxes that had been exposed to water, humidity, and possibly a few critters she would rather not meet. So she volunteered to bring the project to the podcast and finally find out what was under the tarp.

In this episode, we talk about why something can feel so much harder before we actually begin, what happens when the things we’ve already sorted and reduced still feel difficult to let go of, and why storage can be exactly what we need in one season of life…and something we’re ready to leave behind in another.

We also get very up close and personal with some bugs.

    In this episode:

    • Why Cece decided it was finally time to close her storage units
    • What happened when she brought everything home
    • How an eight-month-old pile became “the monster under the tarp”
    • Why the anticipation of an organizing project can be worse than actually doing it
    • What to do when you’ve already pared down a category and letting go gets harder
    • Using physical space to create limits for what you keep
    • Why sometimes it helps to work with the time you have instead of trying to finish the entire task
    • How Cece got through one of the worst boxes in just 12 minutes
    • Why storage units aren’t inherently good or bad
    • Recognizing when you’ve entered a new season with your stuff

By the end of our session, Cece hasn’t finished the entire project. But the tarp has been pulled back, she knows what she’s dealing with, and she has a plan for moving forward.

After years of storing these belongings somewhere else, she’s bringing the pieces of her life home and deciding what belongs in this next chapter.

So, what is Cece making space for?

A life without a storage unit.

And maybe, as she puts it, a chance to come home to herself.

  • Kelsey's Office: Making Space for the Messy Middle
    Sep 1 2026

Kelsey didn't think she needed a professional organizer.

Her home is beautiful. She's thoughtful, organized, and the kind of person who creates welcoming spaces for everyone around her. But one room in her house kept collecting paperwork, unfinished projects, and all the things that didn't seem to belong anywhere else.

What started as a conversation about an office quickly became something much bigger.

Together, we uncover why clutter often gathers around the parts of our lives that are still unfolding, why "dumping grounds" sometimes point to missing systems rather than personal failure, and why so many of us believe we have to finish everything before we're allowed to enjoy where we are.

Along the way, we talk about highly sensitive nervous systems, perfectionism, taking up space, and what it means to create systems that support your real life—not an imaginary version where everything is always caught up.

And just when we thought the session was over... Kelsey went home and did something neither of us saw coming.

    In this episode, we explore:

    • Why beautiful homes can still hide invisible overwhelm
    • The surprising purpose of a "dumping ground"
    • How missing systems create recurring clutter
    • Why Highly Sensitive People (HSP) often need beauty to feel calm
    • The pressure to have everything finished before enjoying life
    • Making space for the messy middle instead of fighting it

If you've ever looked around your home and thought, "I should be further along than this," this episode is for you.

  • Susan’s Office: Making Space for Retirement
    Aug 25 2026

What happens when the clutter isn't yours—but the responsibility is?

This week, I'm joined by Susan, who thought we were organizing a home office. But after years of helping aging parents downsize, settling the estates of beloved family friends, and becoming the keeper of countless family memories, it quickly became clear that this wasn't just an organizing project.

It was about finding her way back to her own life.

Together, we explore what happens when love, responsibility, and grief all end up sharing the same room…and how organizing can help us gently separate them.

Along the way, we talk about:

    • Why inherited clutter feels different from our own.
    • The emotional weight of becoming the family historian.
    • What happens when everything feels valuable.
    • Decision paralysis after years of caregiving.
    • Why organizing doesn't always mean finishing.
    • Breaking overwhelming projects into manageable pieces.
    • Making space for retirement before retirement arrives.
    • Giving yourself permission to build a life that belongs to you again.

One of my favorite moments comes when Susan realizes she doesn't have an organizing problem—she has an accumulation problem born from years of love and service. Instead of trying to finish the impossible, she begins creating a plan she can actually live with.

  • Anya’s Garage: Making Space for Yourself Again
    Aug 25 2026

What happens when the clutter isn't really about the garage?

This week, I'm joined by Anya, who thought she just needed help clearing enough space to park a car. Instead, we uncovered something much deeper.

As we organized her garage, we explored what happens when life gets so full of responsibilities that the parts of ourselves we love quietly get packed away alongside everything else. Together, we discovered that sometimes the hardest things to let go of aren't the objects themselves—they're the dreams, identities, and possibilities those objects represent.

Along the way, we talk about:

    • Why some clutter is really a processing space.
    • The hidden emotional labor of carrying responsibility for everyone else.
    • How our values can sometimes make it harder to let things go.
    • Finding the balance between caring for the planet and caring for yourself.
    • Why "doing the perfect thing" can keep us stuck.
    • The objects that quietly remind us of dreams we've put on hold.
    • Making space for hobbies, creativity, and the next version of yourself.
    • Why organizing is often less about the stuff than the story we've attached to it.

One of my favorite moments comes when Anya realizes that an old camera isn't just an old camera. It's a reminder of the person she was before becoming a parent—and permission to imagine who she wants to become now. Once she sees that, everything changes.

  • Erin’s Office: Making Space for the Next Chapter
    Aug 25 2026

What happens when a space that once worked for you no longer fits your life?

This week, I'm joined by Erin, someone I first worked with almost a decade ago. Since then, life has thrown a lot her way: a pandemic, a major remodel, a career shift, helping care for aging parents, and countless other changes that slowly transformed her peaceful office into a catch-all for everything that no longer had a home.

Together, we organize her office, but as always, we almost never end with the stuff.

Along the way, we talk about:

    • Why getting organized is never really "finished."
    • How life transitions quietly create clutter.
    • The power of finding the right donation home for the things you're letting go.
    • Why childhood experiences can shape what feels cluttered (and what doesn't).
    • The surprising lessons that can come from profound loss.
    • Why you don't have to keep honoring old agreements that no longer fit your life.
    • How to stop judging yourself for not getting organized sooner.
    • What it means to make space for your next chapter instead of trying to recreate an old one.

One of my favorite moments comes when Erin realizes that the clutter bothering her most isn't random at all. Growing up with a mother who used a wheelchair taught her nervous system that clear floors meant safety—a lesson that's still with her today. It's a beautiful reminder that so much of what we call "clutter" is actually rooted in our lived experience.
