Welcome to Fishy Work, a podcast on ecologies, labour and fish governance. This is Season 2: Aquaculture vs Capture Fisheries. Since 2022 aquaculture, that’s the breeding and harvesting of fish along with other aquatic organisms has overtaken Capture Fisheries, i.e. fishing in the wild. In this season Alin Kadfak and I meet a smorgasbord of fishy guests who analyse the new normal. In this episode we speak with Marine Cusa , a 2024 Pew Marine Fellow, senior policy advisor Oceana Europe and researcher at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). We speak about her co-authoered paper "The Fish Behind Fish Feed: Rethinking Transparency Using DNA Tools" in which, along with Matilda Binner, Giulia Maiello, Rosalie Dowell and Stefano Mariani, the use of DNA Metabarcoding to uncover what is inside fish feed is analysed. By the end of our conversation with Marine you will better understand where the farmed fish you eat come from and what this farmed fish eat before you eat them.
