  • Why January Leaves Us Empty: Trauma, Neurodivergence, and Gothic as an Emotional Container
    Jan 16 2026

January can feel empty, heavy, or even painful.

For many people, the end of the holidays doesn't bring relief, but rather a feeling difficult to name: emotional exhaustion, nostalgia, helplessness.

In this episode of Gothic Land, I explore why January hurts from a Gothic-Jungian perspective, using the concept of the psychoid character of the archetype, described by Carl Jung, to understand emotional experiences that are felt in the body before they can be put into words.

I reflect especially on how this emptiness manifests in neurodivergent people and those with a history of complex trauma, and how Gothic expression can function as a symbolic container during times of transition.

    In this episode, we discuss:

    • The emotional void after the holidays (Post-Holiday Blues)
    • How celebrations trigger early memories
    • The psychoid nature of the archetype and pre-language experiences
    • January as a threshold between the collective and the intimate
    • Stranger Things as a contemporary gothic metaphor for complex trauma
    • Gothic as a space for emotional detox and symbolic containment

Gothic Land is a space dedicated to the deep exploration of the inner world through symbolic language, analytical psychology, and gothic culture.
Here you won't find quick fixes, but rather pauses to listen to what is usually left unspoken.

  • The ghost as psychic residue: Jung, shadow, mourning and Gothic literature - Welcome to Gothic Land #21
    Dec 19 2025
“Welcome to Gothic Land” is a video podcast created by Alice in Gothic Land. It's a place where we analyze the psychology behind Gothic productions and elements so we can find our balance. I help you find equilibrium during transitions by analyzing literary works, television programs, songs, and other artistic representations. In other words, an analysis of Gothic psychology. When we talk about ghosts, we usually think of the supernatural. But in the psyche—and especially in Gothic literature—the ghost appears when a loss has not been processed, named, or mourned. In this video, we explore the ghost as a psychic residue, a concept that connects with Carl Jung's Shadow, unresolved grief, and experiences that remain active in our unconscious. From the perspective of the Gothic psyche, we understand the ghostly not as pathology, but as a symbolic language that emerges when something has not been integrated. Throughout the video, we discuss: • what psychic residue is and its relationship to the Shadow• the ghost in art and literature (from Guernica to Beloved)• collective trauma and transgenerational echoes• why Gothic literature is a safe symbolic space to work through loss without fear• invisible grief and unrecognized experiences (prenatal loss, migration, illness, motherhood, life changes) This content is part of my Gothic Psyche School of Thought, an educational and cultural project where death, absence, and the unspoken are addressed through symbolic language, not pathologization.📚 If you are interested in working with your own ghosts from a symbolic and cultural perspective, you will find educational resources on my website and expanded content on Patreon. 🖤 Thank you for supporting this project and for daring to look at what usually remains unspoken.→→ FREE PDF download “15+ Reasons Why Your Neurodivergent Brain Loves Horror and the Gothic” https://www.gothicalice.com/#neurodivergent-gothic-checklist 🕯️ If this approach resonates with you:Join my Gothic Psyche School of Thought, a space to explore and practice a symbolic, artistic, and profound psychology. https://www.gothicalice.com👁️‍🗝️ The Gothic Psyche: A Guided Research and Reflection GroupSchedule a free 45-minute session with me and join the group:https://www.gothicalice.com/learning-material/the-gothic-psyche-investigation-group 📚 New course in January“Exploring the Gothic Psyche: An Introspective Journey through Gothic Expression”https://www.gothicalice.com/exploring-the-gothic-psyche 🕯️ Support My Independent Research https://www.patreon.com/c/AliceInGothicLand 🎓 The Gothic as a Psychic Container: Experiences of AuDHD Individuals with Complex Trauma in Relation to Gothic Literature and Horror Cinema 🖤 Subscribe to my free monthly newsletter: https://gothicalice.com/#register📚 The School of Gothic Psyche: https://www.gothicalice.com/📺 Subscribe to the channel: https://youtube.com/channel/UCzGQMs6xMxEwHTUVBpcK6MQYou can also follow me on my webpage, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and Medium. You can also send me an email with your comments.#psychicghost #psychicresidue #CarlJungshadow #Gothicpsyche #Gothicliterature #unresolvedgrief #ghostsandpsychology #transgenerationaltrauma #collectiveunconscious #symbolicanalysis #Gothicandpsychology #invisiblegrief #deathandpsyche #ghostsinliterature #shadow #neurodivergence #unconsciousmind #symbolism #self-knowledge #complextrauma #shadowintegration #gothicpsychologyschoolofthought #thegothicdescent #darkacademia #aliceingothicland ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

  • Gothic as a refuge for neurodivergent expression - Welcome to Gothic Land #20: Alice in Gothic Land
    Nov 7 2025

“Welcome to Gothic Land” is a video podcast created by Alice in Gothic Land. It's a place where we analyze the psychology behind Gothic productions and elements so we can find our balance. I help you find equilibrium during transitions by analyzing literary works, television programs, songs, and other artistic representations. In other words, an analysis of Gothic psychology.

What if Gothic isn't just a style, but a language of the soul? In this video, we explore how Gothic space can offer a symbolic refuge and a means of communication between neurotypical and neurodivergent individuals. Through a Jungian and aesthetic reading, we discover that the human mind, like a Gothic cathedral, is made of light and shadow, broken arches, and imperfect beauty.

🔮 In this episode, we reflect on:

    • Why we need a new language to talk about difference.

    • Why gothic can be a refuge and a mirror for your own otherness.

    • How to see neurodivergence as your gothic journey.

    • How to normalize difference without erasing the shadow.

    • Why we need a gothic psychology that doesn't pathologize, but understands.
