 Day-by-day courtroom coverage of the cases everybody's arguing about, done with the filings in front of me. Not vibes. Not a theory somebody's cousin saw on TikTok. The actual record: what the witness said, what the document says, which expert has never treated the condition they were hired to testify about. Murder, medical neglect, prosecutorial games, and the cases nobody bothers covering because the victim wasn't the right kind of victim.

Then the part most true crime skips. Who let it happen. Which agency looked away, which law made it possible, which doctor never returned the call, which department was too underfunded to answer the phone. Every case sits inside a system, and the system is usually the whole story. That's where the politics shows up, and it shows up because the facts drag it in, not because I went looking for a soapbox.

    This week they found out the most dangerous witness was themselves.

    A London jury convicted Russell Brand of rape and three counts of sexual assault, and acquitted him on three counts. He’s sentenced Monday. I cover the trial and his slide from left-wing darling to MAHA mascot.EDP445, Bryant Moreland, was charged with four felonies and arrested in Nevada, five years after the 2021 “cupcake” sting.

    He hasn’t gone to trial. His own words to Chris Hansen are now the center of the case.

The judge told two experts “you may be losing the jury here,” which is federal for “shut up, juror seven is drooling.” Closings Friday. Farwell has pleaded not guilty and is presumed innocent.Lori Vallow Daybell: The reason this podcast exists is asking the Idaho Supreme Court for a do-over, arguing she was robbed of her lawyer, a man who also represented her co-defendant.     In 1757, Paris tore a man apart with horses while Casanova rented a window to watch. In 2026, Tennessee pushed two doses of pentobarbital into Christa Pike’s arms, closed a curtain, and failed to kill her. And a whole lot of people were furious that she lived.

    Robin breaks down Michel Foucault’s Discipline and Punish and Thomas Mathiesen’s “synopticon” in plain English: why the state moved executions behind walls, how surveillance taught us to police ourselves, and how the internet handed every one of us a seat at the scaffold. From Court TV to Karen Read, mugshot websites to Ring doorbells, Reddit’s Boston Marathon witch hunt to a tarot-reading TikToker hit with a $10 million defamation verdict, we look at what happens when the crowd stops watching punishment and starts choosing who gets punished.


    Then we go inside the failed execution of Christa Pike at Riverbend in Nashville: the crime against 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer, the childhood abuse Pike’s jury never heard about, the warnings the state ignored, the curtain that closed while witnesses listened to her breathe, and the doctor who now says the drug went into the tissue of her arms instead of her veins. Plus the Pentagon’s plan to livestream a firing squad, the politicians shopping for new ways to kill, and the bloodlust that came from the people you’d least expect.


    The Reality Check is the most direct Robin has ever been: the science on deterrence, brain development, trauma, lethal injection, wrongful convictions, and victims’ families, and why cheering for an execution says more about us than about the person on the gurney.
