  • What We Carry, What We Claim
    Sep 28 2026

What do we carry as writers? What do we claim? And what becomes possible when we make room for one another?

In this episode of Write… Reflect… Reimagine®, Dr. Vilma Luz Cabán reflects on What We Carry, What We Claim: Latina Writers on Voice, Memory, and Becoming, a Casa de María Publisher literary gathering held inside Dwight Hall at Yale University during Hispanic Heritage Month.

Moving beyond the event itself, Dr. Cabán explores the experiences, memories, histories, silences, and people we carry into our writing, and the choices we make about what ultimately belongs on the page. She considers the complexities of representation, the freedom to tell the narrative that is uniquely ours, and why expanding the literary landscape requires making room for many voices rather than expecting any one writer to represent an entire community.

Through reflections on her literary relationships with Peggy Robles-Alvarado, Dr. Melissa Coss-Aquino, Adriana Erin Rivera, and Elisabet Velásquez, she considers another essential part of the writing life: the people who encourage us, challenge us, create opportunities for us, and sometimes believe in our voices before we fully believe in them ourselves.

At its heart, this episode is about authorship, literary community, creative evolution, and the possibilities that emerge when writers make room for one another.

The gathering at Yale began with two questions:

What do we carry? What do we claim?

Dr. Cabán left with a third:

    What do we create?

Listen, reflect, and consider one final question:

What are you ready to create?

  • Writing Through Rejection
    Aug 30 2026

Sometimes rejection never comes from a publisher. It begins much earlier, in the private conversations writers have with themselves.

Is my writing good enough? Who would want to read this? How can I compete when I don’t have thousands of followers? And what happens if my work actually does get published and people I know begin reading it?

In Episode 18 of Write… Reflect… Reimagine®, Dr. Vilma Luz Cabán explores the fears that can quietly keep writers from moving their work forward. She considers the difference between a manuscript that still needs development and a writer who has begun questioning their own ability, the pressure to build a social media platform, the vulnerability that comes with becoming visible, and why a rejection from one publisher should never become a verdict on the value of the work.

The episode also looks beyond traditional publishing and explores the possibilities of independent publishing, including the importance of finding a publishing relationship that helps authors develop, publish, promote, and connect their books with readers.

If you have been revising the same manuscript, wondering whether you are ready, or convincing yourself that there may not be a place for your work, this conversation invites you to examine what is really holding you back.

    Your manuscript may need work.

    Your publishing path may change.

But fear does not have to make the decision for you.

  • Where Writers Gather: Summer Reflections
    Aug 4 2026

This summer marked a meaningful turning point for Casa de María Publisher.

As Write... Reflect... Reimagine® continued to grow into an international community of listeners spanning 22 countries and 97 cities, those conversations found a new expression through Casa de María's inaugural writing retreats and residencies in Puerto Rico.

Recorded from the rural town of Toa Alta, this reflective episode invites listeners into the quieter moments that surrounded personalized writing residencies. While honoring the privacy and intellectual property of each writer, Dr. Vilma Luz Cabán reflects on what these experiences revealed about observation, trust, revision, thoughtful editorial dialogue, and the transformative power of accompanying writers through the creative process.

More than a conversation about writing retreats, this episode explores the deeper question of what happens when writers are given the time, space, and encouragement to slow down, pay closer attention, and rediscover their own voices.

Whether you're an emerging writer, an experienced author, an educator, or someone who simply believes in the enduring power of stories, this episode is an invitation to reflect on the importance of place, community, and the relationships that help creative work flourish.

    In this episode:

    • Celebrating the global growth of the Write... Reflect... Reimagine® community.
    • Reflections from Casa de María Publisher's inaugural summer writing residencies.
    • Why observation, place, and attentive listening remain essential practices for writers.
    • The evolving role of the Editorial Companion.

Thank you for being part of the Write... Reflect... Reimagine® community. Wherever you're listening from, thank you for joining us in building a literary community where writers gather, stories are honored, and every voice is encouraged to grow.
