A proposito di questo titolo

Venomous snakebites affect millions of people each year, and take the lives of over 100,000. My mom survived a snakebite in 2020, and I've been interested in raising awareness about this underrecognized crisis since then. This podcast documents conversations with some of the world's leaders in snakebite. We hope cover every field, from clinical to grassroots mobilization, ecology, molecular biology, history and more!Chloe Vasquez Scienza Scienze biologiche

In this episode of Venomcast, we discuss NTDs, healthcare access, and the continued neglect of snakebite in Kenya. Despite the gloomy outlook, however, grassroots organizations such as the Access to Medicines Platform based in Nairobi are working to provide policy solutions to this underrecognized health crisis.

There are many myths surrounding snakebite treatment; some people use "black stones," others use herbs, and most use tourniquets. I met with Mrs. Dorothy Okemo, Executive officer and Program Manager at the Access to Medicines Platform in Kenya to learn more about the situation in communities.
