  • Magdeleen Dempster: The Blue Door
    Oct 14 2026

Magdeleen “Maggie” Dempster has been missing from Western Australia since 1998. Almost 28 years later, her disappearance remains unsolved.

The 27-year-old Aboriginal woman left Perth with her de facto partner in August 1998, travelling through Western Australia in a white Datsun touring bus with a distinctive blue side door.

According to the account later given by her partner, Maggie left during the journey and returned to Perth alone.

But did she ever make it home?

There is no publicly confirmed sighting placing Maggie back in Perth. Months later, her mother reported her missing.

Today, Maggie's disappearance is classified as suspicious and a $1 million reward is offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person, or people, responsible.

In this episode of Vanished West, we examine Magdeleen Dempster's disappearance, the journey towards Esperance, the account of her final movements, an unverified claim that Maggie was seen alive months later and the questions that remain unanswered nearly three decades on.

If you know anything about the disappearance of Magdeleen Marguerite Dempster, contact Crime Stoppers WA on 1800 333 000.

Cultural Advisory: This episode discusses an Aboriginal woman who is missing and includes the use of her name and image. We share Maggie's story with respect for her, her family and her community.

  • Jeanne D'Arcy: The Woman Who Belonged to the Sea
    Sep 30 2026

In April 2022, 75-year-old Jeanne D’Arcy disappeared from Cottesloe, Western Australia, after leaving the Ocean Beach Hotel late at night.

But Jeanne’s connection to Cottesloe began almost sixty years earlier, when she was one of a small group of young women finding their place in WA’s emerging surf culture.

On the day she disappeared, Jeanne was trying to change her life. She had sought legal advice, made plans to stay with family and spent the evening speaking with the people closest to her.

By the following morning, her phone, car and belongings had been left behind.

Then three items were found near the beach.

What followed was a major search of the Cottesloe coastline and, almost three years later, a coronial inquest into what happened after Jeanne was last captured on CCTV.

This is the story of Jeanne D’Arcy, the woman who belonged to the sea.
