  • “You can’t do anything about yesterday except reflect and learn on it… but tomorrow, you rebuild.”
    Oct 14 2026

By 13, Charles had lost his mother and his father. His teenage sister became his legal guardian, set up his bank account, and taught him how to pay bills and buy groceries before leaving for the military. Years later, he made the hardest phone call of his life: asking to come back to the Potter’s House after walking away the first time.

He left the first time because things were going too well, and he was sure something had to be wrong. This time, he came back to finish what he started. Two days after he arrived, he walked into an alumni gathering as a client, not a graduate, and found a staff and community who were glad to see him return.

In this episode of Unseen Atlanta, Charles talks about why he ran from his first chance at recovery, what it took to humble himself and call back, and how he stopped thinking only about recovery and started focusing on spiritual growth. He also says what he’d tell the 13-year-old version of himself, still sitting in that dark place with his eyes closed.

It’s a story about second chances, about letting people in when rejection has taught you to keep your guard up, and about why recovery isn’t a life sentence but a learning lesson. As Charles puts it, “it may not be the first time, but there’s always another time.”

  • "I walked in angry... but now I feel like I'm walking out with peace, confidence, and a different mindset."

Amber walked into Restoration House with her five-year-old daughter, not knowing if there'd even be a bed for her - she was the only mom in a line of strangers, waiting three hours in the August heat before she found out.

There was a bed. From there, Amber went through 30 days at Restoration, moved into the full program at My Sister's House, and came out the other side with a job, her GED, and a mindset she says she barely recognizes compared to who she used to be.

In this episode of Unseen Atlanta, Amber talks about learning to trust her advocates, freezing up the first time she had to speak in front of a room full of strangers, and the moment she finally had something to say to the version of herself who got her there.

It's a story about what it means to finally feel seen - and what happens when you let someone else help carry the weight.

  • "You see things that help transform you into someone you never thought you'd be."
    Sep 16 2026

Barry left home at 13, took his first drink at 11, and spent years living on the streets of Atlanta before addiction and repeated hospital stays finally led him to The Potter's House.

Today, he's nearly two years into working there as staff — the same program that once helped him get sober.

In this episode of Unseen Atlanta, Barry shares the voice he heard in his car that told him to take the job, what it was like to come back to campus not as a client but as a coworker, and how he now carries his story into both The Potter's House and the Atlanta hospital where he works as a CNA.

It's a full-circle story about second chances, showing up for the people who once showed up for you, and trusting that the sky really is the limit.
