• Unrolled: Exploring the Depths of Scripture | Genesis: 6-8 Noah and the Flood
    Oct 6 2026
In this episode of Unrolled, we walk through Genesis 6–8 and the story of Noah and the flood. We open with a recap of the Genesis themes that lead up to Noah, then explore why the flood comes — the corruption of humanity, Noah's righteousness, and God's instructions for the ark. We talk about the ark as an act of trust and obedience, and consider the flood as a kind of de-creation, including the question of how Noah knew which animals were clean and unclean. From there we follow the flood itself: judgment, preservation, and the security of God's salvation for those inside the ark. We place Noah within the covenant line, make the case for a global flood, and move into Genesis 8 as the waters recede and creation begins again. Noah leaves the ark, worships first, and God responds with mercy. We close with a practical application — learning obedience by reading Scripture for yourself

  • Unrolled: Exploring the Depths of Scripture | Genesis 5: The Line of Seth
    Sep 28 2026
In this episode of Unrolled, we walk through Genesis 5 — the genealogy from Adam through Seth to Noah. We look at what this often-overlooked chapter reveals about the line of promise after the fall, the extraordinary lifespans of the pre-flood patriarchs, and the quiet significance of figures like Enoch, who "walked with God," and Noah, whose name points forward to the flood. Along the way we explore the first few verses of chapter 6 to discuss some of the most confusing sections of the text. We also discuss bible translations and extra biblical text and the role they play in how we read the text.

  • Unrolled: Exploring the Depths of Scripture | Genesis 4: The Battle of Good and Evil
    Sep 22 2026

In this episode of Unrolled, we walk verse-by-verse through Genesis 4 — the Bible's first murder and the story that sets the trajectory for human history east of Eden. We meet Cain and Abel, unpack why God favored Abel's offering, and sit with the sobering warning God gives Cain about the sin crouching at his door. From there we trace the escalation: Cain's choice, Abel's death, God's judgment, and the mysterious mark of Cain. We follow Cain's line into the founding of his city and the growth of culture alongside deepening corruption, climaxing in Lamech's violent boast. Finally, we turn to Seth and the beautiful reappearance of hope as people begin to call on the name of the Lord. Along the way we use the recurring lens of 'tree moments' to see how Genesis 4 echoes Eden — and we close with a preview of what's coming in Genesis 5.

  • Unrolled: Exploring the Depths of Scripture | Genesis 3: The Fall and the Consequences of Sin
    Sep 9 2026
A verse-by-verse walk through Genesis 3, tracing the serpent's temptation, humanity's first act of disobedience, and the consequences that ripple through creation. We read the chapter together and unpack the questions it raises: What did the serpent actually promise? Did evil exist before the fall? Was God withholding something good, or teaching trust? Along the way we look at shame and hiding, the blame game, the curses spoken over the serpent, Eve, and Adam, and the first glimmer of a promised victory over evil. We close by connecting Genesis 3 to Jesus, eternal life, and the choices we still face today — and why wrestling with the hard passages matters. Chapters: 00:00 Introduction and recap: creation, humanity, and the setup for the fall 01:44 Reading Genesis 3: the serpent's temptation and humanity's first act of disobedience 04:08 What did the serpent mean, and did evil already exist before the fall? 07:26 Fig leaves, self-rule, and the recurring pattern of rebellion against God 12:42 Did God withhold something good, and what does trust-filled obedience look like? 16:52 God confronts Adam and Eve: shame, hiding, and the blame game 21:26 The serpent's curse and the first promise of victory over evil 28:34 Judgment on Eve and Adam: pain, conflict, toil, and death in a cursed creation 34:34 Garments of skin, exile from Eden, and the loss of access to the tree of life 40:35 How does Genesis 3 connect to Jesus, eternal life, and human choice? 52:35 Why difficult passages matter: separation from God, prayer, and the lasting meaning of the fall

  • Unrolled Exploring the Depths of Scripture | Genesis 3 The Fall and the Consequences of Sin
    Sep 8 2026

In this episode of Unrolled: Exploring the Depths of Scripture, Austin and Matt continue the story from Genesis 2 and take a closer look at mankind’s role in the garden and the decision to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

We discuss why the tree was there in the first place and what the choice reveals about mankind being created with free will. From there, we explore what happens after Adam and Eve eat from the tree, including their newfound awareness of their nakedness and the way blame begins to enter the relationship between mankind, God, and the serpent.

We also dig into the consequences of the fall, including the curse placed on the ground, the introduction of thorns and thistles, and God’s decision to clothe Adam and Eve with animal skins. Finally, we look at their separation from the garden and the tree of life, and what that separation tells us about mankind’s separation from God.

We also take some time to connect that idea of separation from God to the biblical concept of hell and what it ultimately means to be separated from the presence of God.

  • Unrolled: Exploring the Depths of Scripture | Genesis 2: The Garden and God's Design for Man and Woman
    Sep 1 2026
In this episode of Unrolled, we zoom in on Genesis 2 and its close-up view of humanity's purpose and place in God's ordered creation. We walk through the seventh day and the meaning of rest, then explore how Adam is formed from the ground, filled with God's breath, and given a vocation in the Garden. Along the way we ask some of the questions that make Genesis 2 so compelling: Is Eden a real place or a symbolic one — and where would it sit on a modern map? What was Adam actually tasked to do? Was he immortal before the fall, or was eternal life always tied to the Tree of Life? We close by looking at why woman is created as Adam's corresponding partner, what "one flesh" means for marriage and the union of man and woman, and set the stage for Genesis 3. Chapters: 00:00 — Why Genesis 2 zooms in on humanity's purpose and role 02:39 — The seventh day, ordered creation, and mankind's place in it 03:53 — Formed from the ground: Adam, God's breath, and humanity's vocation 07:00 — Is Eden meant as a real place or a symbolic one? 11:23 — What was Adam tasked to do in the garden? 14:52 — Was Adam immortal before sin, and what changed after the fall? 20:30 — Why woman is created as Adam's corresponding partner 30:54 — Marriage, one flesh, and the union of man and woman 36:47 — Preview of Genesis 3 and episode close
