Hi, I’m Nathan Ching, a redeemed child of God, happy husband and homeschooling dad, and lifelong lover of good books. For years--even before I became a father--I eagerly looked forward to leading my children to know, love, and serve God. As a young man, I realized that reading, beginning first with the Bible, then other books, unlocked my understanding. The Old Testament prophet said, ”I Daniel understood by books….” When I prayed about how to train my children for God, I became convinced that reading to and with my children would be an essential element in helping them to delight in God and do His will. While I can’t claim to have perfected the art of leading my family, I am happy to say that the Lord has taught me practical, useful lessons--lessons I believe would serve other dads as they lead their families. That’s what this podcast is all about. There are treasures to be found in books that simply can’t be found anywhere else. Hey Fellow Dads, If we could sit down together and talk, I’d want to ask you…What books did you read this past year, either to your family or on your own? Which were your favorites? And what are your goals for the coming year? I hope my answers to these questions encourage you to make your own lists and continue in the good work of leading your family. —Nathan Terms Semiquincentennial: lit. half of 500 years. 250th year. Quotes “True, there are only twelve hours in the day, but there are fully twelve hours in the day—sufficient time to do all the will of God. There is always enough time to do that.” —J. Oswald Sanders, in Prayer Power Unlimited [When pastoring a church, George Whitefield] “divided the day into three parts—eight hours for study and retirement, eight hours for sleep and meals, and eight hours for reading prayers, catechizing, and visiting the parish. The profit I reaped by these exercises…was unspeakable.” —George Whitefield’s journal, quoted in Forgotten Founding Father, by Stephen Mansfield “I have observed that before God calls me to a public work, He always sends me into some retirement.”—G. Whitefield “Our lives are not the same as Whitefield’s, nor should we try to emulate him or any other man in every detail—but we may and should feel compelled to improve in certain areas when we see how those men excelled in those areas—and it’s not a bad idea to ask the Lord how we should change in those areas, if it all. I know this—I long to be a more faithful servant of my Lord Jesus Christ, and managing my time better than I did in 2025 and praying more consistently than I did in 2025 will prove major factors in my desire coming to fruition—to be a better servant to my Lord Jesus Christ.” —Nathan If you enjoyed this episode, 🎙️Please subscribe to the podcast so you can listen again next week! ✍🏻 Leaving a review is the best way to say "thanks" so that others can find the podcast, too! • 075 | Christmas Time Ideas for Dads - Bring Their Hearts Back to Christ
    Dec 19 2025

    Hey Fellow Dads,

We want to continuously lead our families to think about Christ, to learn about Him, to love Him, to serve Him, and to share His gospel throughout the year. I think Christmas is a great time of year to recalibrate and refocus our attention on Him, especially as we prepare to step into a new year. Here are seven ways to help us do that.

    —Nathan

    Scriptures

    📖 Genesis 3:15

    📖 Genesis 49:8-12

    📖 Micah 5:2

    📖 Psalm 132:1-12

    📖 Matthew 1-2

    📖 Luke 1-2

    📖 John 1

    📖 Hebrews 10:25

    Books

📚 Jotham’s Journey, by Arnold Ytreeide

📚 Bartholomew’s Passage, by Arnold Ytreeide

📚 Ishtar’s Odyssey, by Arnold Ytreeide

    Quotes

“While we’re trying to keep the emphasis on Christ, it’s easy to get lost in the details and forget what we’re actually doing—remember and rejoice in Jesus Christ and the fact that God sent Him to be our Saviour.”—Nathan

“Pleased as man with men to dwell, Jesus our Emmanuel.”—from “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” originally by Charles Wesley, altered by others, including George Whitefield

“So many opportunities abound, but we want our children to know that we as dads depend on the Lord to open the doors, to help us open our mouths, and to open hearts to the gospel of Christ.”—Nathan

“Who is He in Yonder Stall?”

    by Benjamin Russell Hanby (1866)

1 Who is He in yonder stall, At whose feet the shepherds fall? Who is He in deep distress, Fasting in the wilderness?

2 Who is He the people bless For His words of gentleness? Who is He to whom they bring All the sick and sorrowing?

3 Lo! at midnight, who is He Prays in dark Gethsemane? Who is He on yonder tree Dies in grief and agony?

4 Who is He that from the grave Comes to heal and help and save? Who is He that from His throne Rules through all the world alone?

Chorus: ’Tis the Lord, O wondrous story! ’Tis the Lord, the King of glory! At His feet we humbly fall, Crown Him, crown Him Lord of all!

    Ideas
    1. Each morning, read a portion of Scripture relating to the Lord’s first coming with your family.
    2. Encourage your children to make more gifts more than they buy.
    3. At daily family times, read stories that focus on the Lord’s first coming.
    4. Look for ways to show the love of Christ in acts of service to do together.
    5. Sing songs of Jesus’ birth together.
    6. Be sure to include regular church attendance together.
    7. Pray that God will use your family during this season to help lead people to the Lord Jesus Christ.
