    Oct 21 2026
00:00 - 01:05:** Introduction to "Know Yourself" - The Most Important Lesson. The speaker introduces a powerful teaching from Rabbi Minkis about self-knowledge, focusing on identifying one's strengths and weaknesses through personality elements, initially remembered as a kabbalistic idea.* **01:05 - 03:19:** The Birthday and Personality Connection (Personal Anecdote). The speaker shares a personal experience from 2001 where he could accurately guess people's birth months based on their personality traits, linking it to the four elements and their relation to specific months.* **03:19 - 04:19:** The Challenge of Recalling the System. Acknowledges that his ability to guess birthdays has faded, suggesting a possible distortion in memory and the need to refer to original sources.* **04:19 - 05:20:** The Four Elements: Eish, Afar, Ruach, Mayim. Introduces the four fundamental elements (Fire, Earth, Wind, Water) as the basis of personality, with each person having a dominant element.* **05:20 - 06:30:** Introverts vs. Extroverts & Element Associations. Discusses how some elements are associated with introversion (Eish, Afar) and others with extroversion (Ruach, Mayim), defining these terms in the context of energy replenishment.* **06:30 - 07:31:** Deeper Dive into Mayim (Water) Personality. Explores the characteristics of "Mayim" (Water) personalities, including their love for pleasure, tendency to be late, and emotional responses (frustrated at situations, not people).* **07:31 - 08:37:** The Cyclic Order of Elements in Months. Introduces the cyclical order of elements (Eish, Afar, Ruach, Mayim) linked to the Hebrew months, referencing a "Rashi table" and an observation from Rabbi Zweig.* **08:37 - 09:39:** External Factors and Birth Months. Discusses how modern medical interventions (like manipulated birth dates) might affect the accuracy of the system and notes the element associated with each season.* **09:39 - 10:40:** Specific Mayim Months and Moshe Rabbeinu. Identifies the specific Hebrew months associated with the Mayim element and uses Moshe Rabbeinu's birth month as an example of blended elements.* **10:40 - 11:41:** Afar (Earth) and Eish (Fire) Personalities. Describes the traits and challenges of Afar (easy to deal with, struggles with laziness) and Eish (deep, excels in faith, struggles with arrogance and anger).* **11:41 - 12:44:** The Nuances of Elemental Combinations. Explores how branches of other elements and seasonal influences complicate the primary elemental classification, making it less straightforward.* **12:44 - 13:54:** Different Levels of Elemental Dominance. Discusses how the "first" month of an element is the most dominant and touches on Rabbi Zweig's ability to differentiate within the same elemental month, mentioning seasonal elemental overlays.* **13:54 - 15:01:** Elemental Compatibility in Relationships (Shidduchim). Addresses the concept of elemental compatibility in marriage, particularly the challenges of "Eish" and "Mayim" pairings, and the ideal leader-follower dynamics.* **15:01 - 16:03:** The Core Teaching: Knowing Your Dominant Element. Reiterates that the most important lesson is to know your dominant element (Eish, Ruach, Mayim, Afar) and its branches, rather than just relying on birthdays.* **16:03 - 17:06:** The Significance of Specific Birth Dates (15th, 8th). Discusses how those born on the 15th of the month have the "full force" of their element, while others (like the 8th) might be more balanced.* **17:06 - 18:07:** Ruach (Wind) Personality and Challenges. Focuses on Ruach personalities: leaders, Kirov-oriented, talkative, good salespeople, with challenges including gossip, jealousy, and deceit.* **18:07 - 19:12:** Marital Compatibility: Leaders and Followers. Reinforces the idea that certain elemental pairings in marriage can lead to imbalances (two leaders, two followers), with ideal being one leader and one follower.* **19:12 - 20:13:** Complex Combinations and Potential Greatness. Discusses challenging elemental combinations in individuals (e.g., Eish and Mayim together) and how they might lead to better "tikkun" or greater potential.* **20:13 - 21:21:** Easier vs. More Complicated Birth Dates. Identifies the 15th as the easiest birth date to categorize and the 8th or 22nd as more complex, requiring an assessment of introversion/extroversion.* **21:21 - 22:22:** Re-evaluating Personal Experience and Introversion. The speaker revisits his 2001 experience with introversion/extroversion and questions his previous assumptions about "Afar" months.* **22:22 - 23:23:** Alternative Methods for Elemental Identification. Mentions that some Gedolim and Kabbalists can identify a person's element through their name and mother's name, without relying on birth dates.* **23:23 - 24:37:** Historical Sources: Ramak and Sefer Yetzirah. Introduces classic sources like the Ramak (Pardes Rimonim) and Sefer Yetzirah, detailing their elemental classifications of Hebrew months ...

  • Breishis: Trees Disobeyed? Teshuvah gives the bark its flavor back.The-Trees-That-Disobeyed-Podcast

Teshuvah gives the bark its flavor back.

The Trees That Disobeyed | Rashi, Rav Kook & the Taste of the Journey (Parshat Bereishit)

Q: God asked for a tree whose bark tastes like its fruit. The earth gave us a tree that only makes fruit.

Therefore: Rashi says the ground was cursed for it, together with Adam.

In this episode we follow one tiny missing word in Bereishit 1:11 through Chazal and the meforshim.

    We go from:
    1. The earth on trial -to - the Or HaChaim's three trees.
    2. From the Maharal's "split between tree and fruit"-
    3. To Rav Kook's teaching that the path itself was meant to be as sweet as the goal.

Then we find the one tree that obeyed:

    The Etrog.

    Why are we lazy?

Not because we don't want the goal,

but because the path tastes like wood.

Teshuvah gives the bark its flavor back.

  • Seven Times You Fall — and You Rise Again | Chizuk for Avodas Hashem
    Sep 23 2026
Seven Times You Fall — and You Rise Again | Chizuk for Avodas HashemCHAPTERS• The voice that comes after a fall• Torah: the antidote to the yetzer hara (Kiddushin 30b)• For the women and girls: the merit of a home of Torah (Berakhot 17a)• Bais Yaakov, Pirkei Avos, and daily tefillah (Chafetz Chaim; Peninei Halakha)• Toras chesed: the Torah of kindness on her tongue (Mishlei 31:26)• Seven times the righteous falls — and rises (Mishlei 24:16)• What teshuvah actually is (Rambam, Hilchos Teshuvah 2:2)• Beloved, desired, close: who the baal teshuvah becomes (Rambam, Hilchos Teshuvah 7:6)• Sins turned into merits (Yoma 86b)• The second voice is also the yetzer hara• Finding the good point: Azamra (Likutei Moharan I:282)• What was never decided about you (Niddah 16b)• After a fall: the order of operations• Closing: you are not your worst momentIf you have ever fallen in any area of your avodas Hashem — your learning, your davening, your middos, any mitzvah at all — and wondered whether it is still worth getting up, this episode is for you. Straight chizuk, from the sources themselves: the yetzer hara has two attacks, not one. The first is the sin. The second is the voice afterward that says your Torah is no longer precious. That second voice is also the yetzer hara — and the tradition has an answer for it. This episode is for men and women alike: Kiddushin 30b on Torah as the antidote, the place of women and girls in that antidote — a home of Torah (Berakhot 17a), Bais Yaakov and Pirkei Avos, the Torah of kindness on the tongue of the woman of valor (Mishlei 31:26) — through Mishlei's "seven times the righteous falls and rises," the Rambam's baal teshuvah who is beloved and close, Reish Lakish's teaching that teshuvah from love turns sins into merits, Rebbe Nachman's nekudah tovah, and the angel Lailah who never asks "wicked or righteous" — because that was left in your hands. This episode is Torah learning and chizuk, not individualized halachic, medical, or psychological advice. If you are struggling, reach out to a rav, and where needed, a qualified professional.SOURCES• Kiddushin 30b — "I created the yetzer hara, and I created Torah as its antidote" — https://www.sefaria.org/Kiddushin.30b• Berakhot 17a — "Women, by what merit do they earn their reward?" — https://www.sefaria.org/Berakhot.17a• Proverbs 31:26 — "and a Torah of kindness is on her tongue" — https://www.sefaria.org/Proverbs.31.26• Proverbs 24:16 — "Seven times the righteous one falls and rises" — https://www.sefaria.org/Proverbs.24.16• Rambam, Mishneh Torah, Hilchot Teshuvah 2:2 — the definition of teshuvah and its paths — https://www.sefaria.org/Mishneh_Torah%2C_Repentance.2.2• Rambam, Mishneh Torah, Hilchot Teshuvah 7:6 — the penitent is beloved, desired, close, and dear — https://www.sefaria.org/Mishneh_Torah%2C_Repentance.7.6• Yoma 86b — teshuvah from fear and from love; sins become merits — https://www.sefaria.org/Yoma.86b• Likutei Moharan I:282 (Azamra) — finding the good point — https://www.sefaria.org/Likutei_Moharan.282• Niddah 16b — the angel Lailah; everything is in the hands of Heaven except fear of Heaven — https://www.sefaria.org/Niddah.16b• Rosh Hashanah 17a — one who passes over his grievances — https://www.sefaria.org/Rosh_Hashanah.17a• Rav Yitzchak Hutner, Pachad Yitzchak, Iggerot 128 — "seven times falls" as the biography of greatness (text reproduced) — https://www.sefaria.org/sheets/92684• Chafetz Chaim on what girls should learn: Tanach, Pirkei Avos, Menoras HaMaor — via Yeshivat Har Etzion, Women Learning Torah IV — https://etzion.org.il/en/halakha/studies-halakha/women-and-mitzvot/women-learning-torah-iv-what-study• Rabbi Eliezer Melamed, Peninei Halakha — Women's Connection to Torah — https://ph.yhb.org.il/en/03-07-01/ ; The Mitzva of Prayer for Women — https://ph.yhb.org.il/en/category/03/03-02/• Sarah Schenirer and the founding of Bais Yaakov — https://jwa.org/encyclopedia/article/schenirer-sarahAll sources were verified against the primary texts (Sefaria) before this episode was produced.
