Hard though it is to believe, Driveclub's 12th birthday is just around the corner. In another universe, a decade of sequels to this fascinating and regrettably fumbled-at-launch racer would be keeping pace with Forza Horizon. But in this one, trying to play Driveclub now can but only scratch the surface of what was, at its all-too-brief peak, an engine of frictionless online racing and competition. It was also damn near the prettiest thing you could boot up on your PS4 in 2014, and we reckon it still more than cleans up today. So, resurrect that old save and DLC, if you're lucky enough to have it, and cruise the world's greatest driving roads with us once again.

There's really no smooth way to segue from racing games to tennis games, other than the fact that Sega and Namco used to make both of them. So this episode is an ode to gaming's oldest genre—specifically the Virtua Tennis franchise, which we all love a lot, and Smash Court, which we like a lot less, though there's no denying that its vibes are immaculate. Andrew rounds out the party by rifling through a stack of 40 more tennis games, as he is wont to do, including one for the Phillips CD-i. I don't think I've ever seen a CD-i.

Everybody knows about Ridge Racer V, but that wasn't the only racing game Namco delivered on day one for the PlayStation 2. No stranger to racing on two wheels as well as four, Namco also introduced the first of four MotoGP games that established a high bar of quality, inspired by the world's premier motorcycle racing championship and taking full advantage of Sony's next-gen hardware. In this episode, Adam, Andrew, and Paul discuss all four entries on the platform, their lesser-known beginnings in an earlier arcade game, and the forgotten PSP port that's secretly one of the handheld's best racers.

Intro song: "Inner Attack" from 500GP and MotoGP. Outro song: "Result" from MotoGP (PSP).

The fine people at the Hamster Corporation have been preserving and celebrating some of the greatest arcade games the world has ever known for a number of years now through their Arcade Archives collection. This episode, Adam, Andrew, Paul, and special guest Jayson Lamp run through their favorites involving cars and bikes, from the earliest selections to the latest additions to the catalog, like Rave Racer.

Time Extend Revo continues its exploration of decades' worth of Formula 1 video games, starting with the Nintendo 64 and taking it through the Xbox 360 and PS3 era. By the end, it's pretty clear that the boys have a couple favorites—and of course, that the honorable mention will forever go to F1 Race Stars.

Songs ordered by appearance: "Main Menu" from Formula One 2001, "Track Select" from Grand Prix Challenge, "Congratulations" from F1 Super Lap, and a cover of T-Square's "Truth" from F1 Grand Prix Part III.

For as long as there have been racing games, there have basically been Formula 1 games. This episode, Adam, Andrew, and Paul explore about 20 years of digital representations of the pinnacle of motorsport, from the early days of Pole Position to the sport's first forays into polygons. We don't cover literally every game, but we talk about an awful lot of them. Join us later for Part 2, where we pick up where we left off here, with the N64.

Songs ordered by appearance: "Hockenheim" from F1 Challenge, "Results" from Virtua Racing FlatOut, and "Car Select" from Grand Prix Challenge.

Two years after a surprise debut at The Game Awards, Milestone's anime-inspired reenvisioning of Screamer is here, and the boys each feel some different type of way about it. A narrative-heavy arcade racer oozing ambition with a cohesive art style and unique gameplay, it's the kind of game we at Time Extend always love to support, even if its story is at times nonsensical, and even if it carries a hard learning curve. Will it eventually go down as a classic, or burn up like a shooting star?

Songs ordered by appearance: "BonBomb" by Hex Archive, "Arcade" by VGR, and "Can You Keep Up?" by Hex Archive, all from Screamer.

Somehow, Genki's Multi Racing Championship has wound up on Time Extend's Mount Rushmore of racing games, and the boys try to once and for all unpack whether or not it's actually a good game. What follows is a random discussion of N64 racers via the Analogue 3D before multiple gaming-related topics that have nothing at all to do with virtually driving cars. We weren't planning for this to be the return of the Free Practice episodes of old, but that's pretty much what happened.
