  • Why Your Child’s Whining Triggers You (It’s Your Nervous System)
    Aug 22 2026

    EP:206 Hey Thrive Community! 👋

Have you ever heard your child whining and immediately felt your entire body tense up?

Maybe it's the sound of crying, whining, screaming, repetitive questions, or even a certain tone of voice. Suddenly, you're irritated, overwhelmed, or desperate to make the noise STOP.

If you've ever thought, “Why does this sound bother me SO much?”—you're not alone.

In this episode of Thrive Like a Parent, I'm getting real about one of the parenting triggers I hear about all the time: why certain sounds from our children can feel incredibly activating to our nervous systems.

I also share my personal experience with my son, Charlie, who was colicky and needed a tremendous amount of support during his early years. That experience taught me so much about the connection between parenting, attachment, nervous system regulation, and our instinct to immediately jump into “fix-it mode.”

Because sometimes, the sound isn't just a sound.

Our brains can interpret certain cries, whining, or repetitive noises as signals that something needs to be fixed right now. And when we're already stressed, overstimulated, or depleted, our tolerance can become even smaller.

    In this episode, we'll explore:

🧠 Why certain sounds trigger such a strong emotional response 👂 How auditory sensitivity and nervous system regulation can influence parenting 💛 Why awareness and self-compassion are so important when you're triggered 🔄 How our instinct to “fix” everything can keep us stuck in a cycle of stress 🌿 Practical strategies for supporting yourself when your child's behavior or sounds feel overwhelming 👩‍👧‍👦 How understanding your own nervous system can help you respond instead of react

And here's the reminder I want you to take with you:

    It's okay to be triggered.

Being overwhelmed by your child's whining or crying doesn't make you a bad parent. It doesn't mean you don't love your child.

What matters is learning to recognize what's happening inside your own nervous system and finding healthier ways to support yourself through those moments.

Because parenting isn't about never getting triggered.

It's about learning what your triggers are, understanding yourself with compassion, and building the tools to move through those moments without losing yourself.

🎧 Listen to this episode of Thrive Like a Parent for an honest conversation about parenting triggers, sensory overload, nervous system regulation, emotional regulation, and how to stay connected to yourself while caring for your child.

💬 I'd love to hear from you: What sound or behavior from your child triggers you the most? Leave a comment or review and tell me what you've experienced—and what you'd love for me to talk about next.

  • How to Thrive in the Chaos: Choosing Yourself Without Guilt
    Jul 3 2026

    EP:199 Hi friends,

I want to remind you of something that so many parents need to hear:

Self-love doesn't magically appear. It's something you create through the choices you make every single day.

You build self-love by putting yourself on your own priority list. By saying no without guilt. By asking for help when you need it. By protecting moments of peace. By listening to what your body and nervous system are asking for instead of constantly pushing through.

That's what allows you to thrive—even when life feels messy, overwhelming, and completely chaotic.

One of the biggest misconceptions I see is that choosing yourself somehow makes you selfish.

    It doesn't.

Choosing yourself doesn't make you a bad parent, a bad partner, or a weaker person.

It makes you someone who is courageous enough to protect your mental health, honor your limits, and recognize that you can't pour from an empty cup.

The truth is, life isn't going to become less chaotic. Parenting will always bring challenges, unexpected moments, and seasons that stretch you.

    But there is another way.

You don't have to live in survival mode. You don't have to wait until you're completely burned out before taking care of yourself. You can learn to regulate your nervous system, create healthy boundaries, and prioritize your well-being—even during life's hardest seasons.

That's exactly what we're talking about in this week's episode of Thrive Like a Parent.

If you've been feeling overwhelmed, emotionally drained, disconnected from yourself, or like you're constantly taking care of everyone except you, I hope this conversation reminds you that you deserve the same love, compassion, and care that you so freely give to everyone else.

Because when you take care of yourself, you're not just changing your life—you’re changing the way your children experience theirs.

🎧 Tune in now and let's talk about how to thrive in the middle of life's chaos without losing yourself along the way.

💛 If this episode speaks to you, be sure to subscribe, leave a review, and share it with another parent who needs this reminder today. Your support helps us reach more families and continue creating conversations that help parents not just survive—but truly thrive.

  • Why Sex Feels Like a Chore After Kids (And How to Reconnect)
    Jul 10 2026

EP:200 Is intimacy in your relationship feeling more like another item on your to-do list than a meaningful connection?

    Hi friends,

This week, we're talking about something that so many couples experience—but very few people are willing to say out loud.

Over the years, I've noticed a common pattern with the parents and couples I work with: they're disconnected from intimacy. Sex starts to feel like an obligation instead of a place where both partners feel seen, safe, connected, and alive.

And here's what I want you to know...

That isn't how intimacy is supposed to feel.

True intimacy isn't about checking a box or meeting someone else's expectations. It's about emotional safety, nervous system regulation, trust, vulnerability, and mutual pleasure. It's about creating a space where both people feel valued—not where one person silently sacrifices their own needs.

If you've ever... 💛 Felt like sex has become another chore. 💛 Said "yes" when your body was saying "not right now." 💛 Struggled to communicate what you actually need. 💛 Felt disconnected from your own body after becoming a parent. 💛 Wondered where the passion and emotional closeness went...

    You're not alone.

In this episode of Thrive Like a Parent, I'm sharing why your nervous system plays a much bigger role in intimacy than most people realize—and why advocating for your own needs isn't selfish...it's essential.

Your body deserves to feel safe. Your voice deserves to be heard. Your pleasure matters. And healthy intimacy should leave both partners feeling more connected—not more depleted.

This conversation isn't just about sex. It's about reclaiming your relationship with yourself so you can build deeper, healthier, and more fulfilling relationships with the people you love.

🎧 Tune in now as we explore intimacy, emotional connection, nervous system regulation, healthy communication, and how to create a relationship where both partners can truly thrive.

✨ If this episode resonates with you, subscribe to the channel, leave a review, and share it with your partner or someone who needs to hear this conversation. The more we normalize these discussions, the more couples we help move from surviving together to deeply connecting again.
