Joshua Watson thought he knew the Bible well enough to judge the preacher—without reading it for himself.

In Part 1 of his testimony, Joshua recounts his parents’ divorce, a reunion with his father, and the pride behind his certainty. Reconnecting with his dad filled a hole he hadn’t known was there, and he credits God with how a short visit became a lasting reunion. He listened closely to his father’s lessons about the Bible. But when he went to church, he was measuring the sermon against what he thought he knew. He believed God had something for him. He also believed he already had the answers.

This is a story about the things we miss when we’re sure we have nothing left to learn.
