You’ve seen them in grocery stores and Ubers—dogs in "service" vests that clearly aren't trained. It might seem harmless, but for the blind community, the consequences are illegal and immediate. Today, we’re talking about how one person’s fraud creates a ripple effect of discrimination that hits cane users and guide dog teams alike.

In this honest and heartfelt episode, I address the biggest assumption faced often: that being blind is "easy" or "inspirational." This episode is a conversation about the pressure to be perfect and the reality of the constant effort required to navigate the world. We conclude our miniseries by tackling Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP). This is the specific vision loss that I, your host, have. This condition affects infants born prematurely, where abnormal blood vessel growth can lead to retinal detachment. I discuss the unique challenges of having vision loss that is present from birth, the specific experience of detachment, and how ROP impacts the development of early mobility and spatial awareness from the very beginning.
