A proposito di questo titolo
In 2010, Belfast filmmaker George Clarke found a clip in the DVD extras of Charlie Chaplin's The Circus (1928): a woman at the premiere outside Grauman's Chinese Theatre, holding a dark object to her ear and talking — like a mobile phone, forty-five years before the mobile phone existed. James checks the provenance, the physics (a phone in 1928 would have no network to call), and the history of 1920s hearing aids, including Siemens' 1924 carbon microphone device. What was the footage? Genuine premiere footage from 1928, included in the 2004 DVD. What was she holding? Most likely a hearing aid — a rectangular black box held to the ear, exactly like the Siemens 1924 device. What is impossible? A working phone call in 1928. Verdict: ordinary explanation.
