Welcome to the Two Cent Charlie Podcast, where hard moments become opportunities for growth, connection, and reflection. Hosted by educator, school leader, mom, and storyteller Charlia Moneá ("Miss Charlie"), this podcast explores what it means to navigate life's challenges without losing yourself—or each other. Each week, Charlia shares practical wisdom, honest stories, and thought-provoking conversations about human behavior, relationships, identity, leadership, parenting, and the lessons we can learn from the children we serve and the adults we're still becoming. Whether you're a parent, educator, leader, or simply a human trying to make sense of life's messy middle, you'll find encouragement, perspective, and a reminder that you don't have to figure it all out alone. At Two Cent Charlie, we believe that every person has two cents worth sharing. Every experience holds wisdom. Every hard season offers lessons. And every small act of reflection has the power to change a trajectory. So pull up a chair. Take what you need. Leave what you've learned. Because every two cents adds to the flame that ignites change.2024 Igiene e vita sana Psicologia Psicologia e salute mentale Successo personale Sviluppo personale
  • My Two Cents for Productive Parent-Teacher Conferences—and What Happens Before Them
    Sep 30 2026

Parent-teacher conferences are coming—but conference night should NOT be the first time you find out how your middle schooler is doing. 👀

In this episode of the Two Cent Charlie Podcast, Miss Charlie is giving parents five things to do before sitting down with the teacher: LOOK. LISTEN. REACH. PREP. DO.

We're talking about how to look beyond the overall grade, spot patterns in missing assignments and academic performance, talk to your middle schooler without turning the conversation into an interrogation, know when to contact the teacher before conferences, and help your child take increasing ownership of their education.

Because the goal isn't to walk into a conference looking for a verdict on your child. It's to walk in with enough information to have a productive conversation about what they need next.

And please—don't wait until conference night to discover that the thing your child has been "working on" has, in fact, not been worked on. 😂

    Your Two Cents Task:
Open the gradebook. Don't react yet—just look for patterns.

    Then ask your child:

"If your teachers could tell me one thing about how school is going for you right now, what do you think they'd say?"

    And then…listen.

    🎧 In this episode:
    • How to prepare for parent-teacher conferences
    • What to look for in the online gradebook
    • Better ways to talk about grades and missing assignments
    • Questions to ask your middle schooler before conferences
    • When to contact the teacher instead of waiting
    • How to turn conference feedback into one manageable next step
    • Why middle school is the time to gradually transfer responsibility to your child

My Two Cents: Parent-teacher conferences should be a checkpoint—not a crime scene. 😉

Take what you need. Leave the rest.

Today is my BIRTHDAY!! New chapter. New perspective. Still me.

As another birthday arrives, I'm realizing something I wish I'd understood years ago: celebrating yourself isn't selfish—it might actually be one of the healthiest things you can do.

This isn't an episode about cake or getting older.

It's about choosing yourself on purpose. About remembering who you were before life asked you to become everything for everyone else. And about making one quiet promise to yourself that changes everything.

If you've ever felt guilty for wanting more joy, more peace, or simply more of yourself back…

    Pull up a chair.

    Let's talk about it.

  • BONUS: Child Independence vs Parenting Instincts Under Pressure
    Jul 16 2026

As parents, one of the hardest parts of preparing our children for middle school isn't buying the school supplies—it's learning when to hold on and when to let go.

In this episode, we explore one simple but powerful truth: independence isn't something children suddenly have on the first day of middle school. It's something they practice, one small wobble at a time.

Using the image of a child learning to ride a bicycle, we'll talk about why mistakes aren't signs of failure—they're part of the learning process. We'll also take an honest (and hopefully grace-filled) look at ourselves by exploring the parenting instincts that often show up under pressure. Are you more likely to hover, clear the path, defend, investigate, or coach? None of these instincts make you a "good" or "bad" parent. They simply reveal how love sometimes responds to fear.

This episode also introduces a philosophy that will become a cornerstone of the Two Cent Charlie community: The Campfire Parent™—the kind of parent who creates emotional safety, keeps conversations warm, and raises children who know they can always come home, even as they learn to stand on their own.

    If you've ever wondered…

    • Am I helping my child become independent—or accidentally doing too much for them?

    • How do I let my child struggle without feeling like I'm failing them?

    • How do I prepare them for middle school without protecting them from every challenge?

…then pull up a chair. There's a seat for you around the campfire.

Because confidence isn't built by avoiding problems.

It's built by learning you can solve them.

    In this episode you'll discover:

    • Why independence is practiced—not granted

    • The five parenting instincts that often emerge under stress

    • How small, everyday experiences build lasting confidence

    • Why "wobbling" is an essential part of growing up

    • The heart behind The Campfire Parent™ and how it can strengthen your relationship with your child before, during, and long after middle school

So grab your coffee, settle in, and let's keep preparing the adults who will walk beside children through one of life's biggest transitions.

Helping kids by helping the adults help kids…one conversation at a time.
