  • Coming Home to Lead: Kevin Cox and Blue Demon Basketball
    Jan 30 2026

The Christiansburg High School Blue Demons boys basketball program is in the midst of a competitive 2025-26 season, displaying growth and resilience in Virginia’s Division III River Ridge District. As of mid-January, the Blue Demons hold a solid 10-5 overall record with notable victories over teams like Radford and Pulaski County, and competitive showings against Salem and Hidden Valley. Their balanced play on offense and defense has helped build momentum heading into the latter part of the season.

At the helm is Coach Kevin Cox, a program leader with deep ties to Christiansburg basketball — both as an alumnus and as a coach who has worked to reestablish a winning culture over recent seasons. Under Cox’s guidance, the team has relied on a mix of veteran leadership and emerging talent.

Two central figures from your interview are:

    • Senior Guard/Forward Mason King — A senior leader on and off the court, King brings size, experience, and scoring versatility to the Blue Demons. Listed at 6’4”, he plays both on the perimeter and inside when needed, anchoring the team’s backcourt and providing a stabilizing presence in key moments.

    • Sophomore Forward/Center Garrett Overbay — One half of the Overbay twins frontcourt duo, Garrett is a significant interior force. At 6’8”, he impacts the game with his ability to score around the rim, rebound, and provide a rim-protecting presence. His contributions this season include double-figure scoring and physical play that have helped Christiansburg secure key wins.

Surrounded by a roster featuring a blend of seasoned seniors and coached sophomores, the Blue Demons exemplify a team in transition: embracing the wisdom of veteran players while integrating young talent poised to define the program’s future.

Your interview captures the dynamic between leadership, development, and competitive ambition — from Coach Cox’s strategic direction to Mason King’s senior responsibility and Garrett Overbay’s breakout contributions, offering listeners a vivid portrait of a team navigating a pivotal season for the Blue Demons.
