  • Ilen Rovers captain Leah Carey on county LGFA junior b win
    Oct 7 2026

ON THIS week’s podcast, we catch up with Ilen Rovers LGFA captain Leah Carey following their county junior B success last weekend.

The Baltimore and Church Cross club saw off Bandon 2-10 to 0-6 to win the title, just a year after claiming the junior D county.

Carey, who is in second year of early childhood care in MTU Cork, was also captain of the Skibbereen Community School team that won the All-Ireland in 2025 so she has quite the winning habit.

With her sister Saorla, cousins Kate and Eimear as well as Meabh Collins and Cork senior Emma Hurley, Ilen has an exciting bunch coming through the ranks.

A cohort of them were on that Skibbereen CS victorious team too.

St Colum’s also won a county title last weekend, emphasising the rise of certain clubs in West Cork and Ilen are one of those rising rapidly.

Also on the show, we look back at Bandon sealing their place in a second intermediate A hurling final on the spin as well as a big weekend of football action.

Clonakilty, Carrigaline, Carbery Rangers and Adrigole are some of those on the search for county final spots.

  • Football quarter-finals review
    Sep 30 2026

ON THIS week’s podcast, we are joined by friend of the show Ger McCarthy to talk through the hectic weekend of football.

Clonakilty progressed to the semi-final for the first time since 2021, defeating Newcestown and will face St Finbarr’s in the last four.

There was disappointment for Castlehaven and Carbery though who fell to Nemo Rangers and the Barrs respectively.

O’Donovan Rossa’s relegation from senior A was confirmed with a loss to Clyda Rovers but Beara clubs Castletownbere and Urhan stayed up.

We also have interviews from Eoin Ryan (Clonakilty), Gene O’Donovan (Carbery) and Norman Fleming (Barryroe) included.

This is our 400th episode of the podcast too and sports editor Kieran McCarthy honours the occasion by reflecting on the podcast years after it began in 2019.

  • Courcey Rovers camogie star Linda Collins on county semi-final
    Sep 23 2026

ON THIS week’s podcast, we are joined by Courcey Rovers’ Linda Collins as they prepare for a SE Systems Cork senior camogie semi-final against Blackrock this Sunday (2pm) in MTU Cork.

Collins is only back from her travels abroad this year and has already impressed in a campaign where the Ballinspittle club have won four games on the trot.

In their 5-14 to 0-16 quarter-final win over St Catherine’s, Collins struck an astonishing 4-5 from play.

Courceys are strong in other areas too as Saoirse McCarthy, Fiona Keating and Jacinta Crowley provide more quality.

The club are on the hunt for their first final appearance since they won the championship in 2020 but before that Collins joined us on the podcast.

Also on the show, we look back at a great weekend of hurling for Barryroe and Argideen Rangers as well as looking forward to huge football quarter-final ties involving Newcestown, Clonakilty, Carbery, St Finbarr’s, Castlehaven and Nemo Rangers.
