What if some of the most important decisions we make aren't entirely ours?

Where we live. What we learn. What opportunities we have. How we care for ourselves. What we believe is possible. What we leave behind.

In this episode of The Soulful Eclectic, I have the pleasure to sit down with Todd Allyn, a researcher and educator who studies decision integrity the space between the choices we believe we're making and the choices that may already be influenced by the systems surrounding us.

Todd explores five major forces that can shape the trajectory of our lives: income, education, health, lifestyle, and legacy.

Together, Todd and I unpack the relationship between personal responsibility and the systems we live within. We explore how our environment can influence our choices, why some decisions don't reveal their consequences until years later, and what it means to reclaim agency when we recognize the forces shaping our lives.

This isn't a conversation about blaming the system.

It's about becoming aware of the system and asking a deeper question:

Once we understand what's influencing our choices, what can we actually do with that knowledge?

There comes a moment in life when you realize that something—or someone—you once needed no longer fits the person you're becoming.

And that's not always easy to admit.

Sometimes we stay because of history. Sometimes we stay because of loyalty. Sometimes we stay because we don't want people to think we've changed.

But here's the truth: growth changes us.

In this episode, Diana explores what it means to outgrow relationships, environments, expectations, and even old versions of ourselves without carrying unnecessary guilt. She talks about the difference between abandoning people and honoring your growth, learning when a relationship has completed its season, and giving yourself permission to move forward without rewriting the past.

This is a conversation about growth, boundaries, grief, gratitude, and learning that you can love where you've been without needing to live there forever.
