Episode 14 – Covenant: Promise Under the Stars

    Genesis 15 & 17

In Episode 14 of the Simply Christian Podcast, we explore Genesis 15 and 17, where God confirms His covenant with Abraham beneath a sky filled with stars. As Abraham wrestles with doubt and the apparent impossibility of God's promises, the Lord reveals His faithfulness through a covenant founded on grace rather than human achievement.

We examine the significance of covenant theology, the promise of countless descendants, the gift of righteousness through faith, and the covenant sign of circumcision.

Ultimately, this episode points us to Jesus Christ, the true fulfilment of God's promises and the guarantor of God's everlasting covenant.

    Bonus Episode: A Better Homecoming

Homer's Odyssey and the Parable of the Prodigal Son –Luke 15:11-32

While Christopher Nolan's Odyssey fills cinemas around the world, we take a step off the main path to ask why a poem nearly three thousand years old still pulls us in. The answer, I think, is an ache we all know — the longing for home the Greeks called nostos, the very word buried inside our "nostalgia."

Homer's hero fights his way home by cunning and strength, proves he's the true king by bending a bow no one else can bend, and is recognised at last by his scars. It's a homecoming you have to be worthy of. And that, deep down, is what the human heart believes about God: earn it, prove it, be good enough.

Then, one afternoon in Galilee, Jesus tells a very different homecoming story — a son who comes back with empty hands and a rehearsed apology, and a Father who runs.

In this bonus episode we set the two side by side: the homecoming we think we must earn, and the far better one that grace runs down the road to give. Come and travel with me, and let's take the long way home.

  • Episode 13 - Melchizedek: The Priest-King of Salem - Genesis Chapter 14

    Melchizedek: The Priest-King of Salem

    Genesis Chapter 14

He appears in just three verses of Genesis… and then vanishes.... No family tree, no birth, no death. Yet a thousand years later, David writes a psalm about him — and the writer of Hebrews builds one of the New Testament's most breath taking arguments upon him.

In this episode, we meet Melchizedek: King of Righteousness, King of Peace, priest of God Most High… reigning in Salem — Jerusalem itself — centuries before David ever conquered the city.

We'll uncover the meaning hidden in his Hebrew name, discover why Israel's kings were forbidden to touch the altar, and explore what ancient Jewish readers made of this mysterious figure — from the Dead Sea Scrolls' heavenly deliverer to the rabbis who believed he was Shem, son of Noah.

And we'll follow the golden thread all the way home: to a Priest who never dies, who unites the crown and the altar, and who still comes out to meet weary travellers on the road… with bread and wine in His hands and a blessing on His lips.

Join me, as we trace one of the clearest portraits of Jesus in all of the Old Testament.

Episode 12 - Abraham and the Promise - God's Redemptive Plan Through One Family

    Genesis 11:26–14:24

Abraham's story begins with God calling him out of Ur, promising to bless him, make his name great, and form a nation through his family.

Despite Sarah's barrenness and the uncertainty of a new land, Abraham responds in faith, building altars and trusting God's guidance. In Canaan, conflict with Lot reveals Abraham's generosity, while God reaffirms His covenant.

When Lot is captured, Abraham courageously rescues him, demonstrating God's protection over the chosen family.

Through Abraham, God launches His redemptive plan—one family set apart to bring blessing, hope, and ultimately salvation to the world.

Episode 11 - Elohim: The God Before Everything

Exploring the name of God: His Identity, character and theological meaning.

In this episode of The Simply Christian Podcast, we take a break from our journey through Genesis to explore the very first name given to God in Scripture: Elohim — the God before everything.

Genesis doesn't open with an argument for God's existence, a philosophy, or a list of commandments. It opens with a name. So, in this episode, we slow down and ask what that name reveals: A God of power, of majesty, and of absolute authority, whom stands before creation, behind creation, and above creation — the One from whom everything comes and upon whom, everything depends.

Along the way, we discover how the names Elohim, YHWH, and Adonai unfold God's character across Scripture — the transcendent Creator of Genesis 1 who draws near in Genesis 2, walking in the garden with His people.

And we see how these names converge in the most astonishing claim of all: The Word became flesh, and how the Creator stepped into His own creation in the person of Jesus Christ.

If life feels formless, empty, or dark, this episode offers a liberating truth — the God who spoke light into the first darkness still speaks light into your world today, and He can be trusted with your tomorrow.

  • Episode 10 - Babylon Rising - The Tower of Babel, humanity building heaven without God
    Jul 13 2026

Episode 10 - Babylon Rising - The Tower of Babel.

    Humanity building heaven without God.

In Episode 10 of the Simply Christian podcast, we explore the story of the Tower of Babel and humanity's enduring desire to build life apart from God. Far more than an account of anancient tower, Babel reveals the roots of human pride, self-sufficiency, and the pursuit of identity without our Creator. Tracing the theme of Babylon throughout Scripture—from Genesis to Revelation—we discover how God confrontshuman arrogance while graciously pursuing His purposes.

Ultimately, Babel points us to Jesus Christ, the One who came down from heaven to reconcile what pride had divided, offering grace where humanity sought self-salvation and true unity in place of rebellion.

  • Episode 9 — Noah, A Flood, and a World Still Unravelling
    Jul 6 2026

Noah, A Flood, and a World Unravelling

Judgement, rescue, and the God who makes all things new

The story of Noah is far more than animals marching two by two beneath a rainbow sky. It is the account of a world unravelling — creation buckling under the weight of human violence, corruption, and rebellion against God.

In this episode we step into that fracturing world and watch as judgement and grace arrive together.

As the floodwaters rise, God shuts the door of the ark and preserves a remnant, carrying Noah and his family through the very waters of judgement and out into a world made new. Along the way we trace the deep echoes of Genesis 1, a type of de-creation giving way to new creation — and discover why Jesus, Peter, and the writer of Hebrews all reach back to this story.

For the ark, passing through the waters, becomes a signpost: pointing past Noah, past the rainbow, to Christ Himself — our rescue through judgement.

  • Episode 8 - The Nephilim. Giants, Fallen Angels, and the World Before the Flood – Genesis 6:1-4
    Jun 29 2026

Episode 8 - The Nephilim. Giants, Fallen Angels, and the World Before the Flood – Genesis 6:1-4

Giants, fallen angels, or something far closer to home?

    In this episode....

Who were the Nephilim? Giants? Fallen angels? Legendary warriors? Few passages in Scripture have stirred more fascination — or more debate — than the mysterious opening verses of Genesis 6.

In this episode we slow down over the text itself, the ancient Jewish traditions that grew up around it, and the three main interpretations Christians have held across the centuries. But the deeper we look, the clearer it becomes that the Nephilim were never meant to be the centre of the story.

They sit within a far bigger picture: a world sliding into corruption, violence, and rebellion as the flood draws near.

Beyond the mystery lies a sobering message about the spread of sin — and a grieving God who refuses to abandon His creation. For even here, in one of Scripture's darkest chapters, one man finds favour, and the thread of hope runs on toward Christ.
