If the process of establishing the systems of our life begins in self denial, where does self-denial begin? Does that mean we cannot have anything good for ourselves?

We consider Galatians 5 which points us to the idea of killing our flesh or our animal nature. Our anger, our bitterness, our worry are a few examples of that nature. But how do we begin the process of killing our nature that might be so deep seeded inside of us? We look at the idea of building our spirit man so that we might kill the flesh.
