A proposito di questo titolo
The Resilient Philosopher explores philosophy, psychology, leadership, economics, work, culture, and the ideas that shape how we understand ourselves and the systems around us. Hosted by author Orlando J. Alvarez, each episode begins with a question, lived experience, contradiction, or observation and follows it through reflection, evidence, and examination rather than slogans or easy answers. Topics range from human behavior and organizational life to economic participation, artificial intelligence, resilience, responsibility, and the assumptions we rarely stop to question. The objective is not to tell you what to think, but to examine what survives when we keep thinking.Orlando J. Alvarez Filosofia Scienze sociali
  • The Difference Between Owning and Chasing | Economic Participation, Part 3
    Nov 2 2026

What changes when the asset increasing in price is something you already own?

In Part 3 of the Economic Participation series, Orlando J. Alvarez examines the difference between trying to acquire an appreciating asset and already owning one.

The previous episode looked at income and purchasing power through housing. This episode changes positions. For the prospective buyer, rising housing prices can increase the distance between income and ownership. For the existing owner, the same price movement may increase the value of an asset already held.

The owner may be riding the appreciation while the prospective owner is chasing it.

That distinction opens a larger systems question: can today’s labor become tomorrow’s ownership, or does income increasingly remain trapped in the cycle of consumption required to continue participating?

This episode separates assets from income, purchasing power, and wealth so that each can be examined before the series brings them back together.

Next episode: Economic Participation, Part 4 moves from assets into wealth and net worth, asking what changes when assets and liabilities are examined together.

  • What Can Your Income Buy? | Economic Participation, Part 2
    Oct 25 2026

Income can rise while economic capacity moves in a different direction.

    In Part 2 of the

Economic Participation series, Orlando J. Alvarez examines the relationship between income and purchasing power, using housing as the primary example.

The episode compares median household income and FHFA house-price growth in Pinellas County, Florida, and Knox County, Tennessee, from 1995 to 2024. In both counties, household income increased substantially, but housing prices increased faster.

The discussion then expands into inflation, deflation, and downward nominal wage rigidity to show why rising wages, falling prices, or any other single economic number cannot explain household conditions by itself.

    The central question is simple:

It is not only how much money you make. What can that income actually buy?

This episode does not present the housing comparison as a complete affordability model or claim that housing represents all purchasing power. Instead, it isolates one relationship to examine how income and prices can move at different rates.

    Next episode:

The Difference Between Owning and Chasing examines what changes once the asset increasing in price is something you already own.

  • Income Is Not Wealth | Economic Participation, Part 1
    Oct 19 2026

How much money do you make, and what does that number actually tell us?

In the first episode of this five-part series on economic participation, Orlando J. Alvarez examines a basic distinction that is easy to overlook: income is not wealth.

Income tells us how much money is flowing into a household. Wealth considers what we own and what we owe. Purchasing power asks a different question altogether: what can that income actually buy?

Using income-tier data, household examples, and lived experience from more than two decades in the workforce, Orlando asks whether occupying a similar place in the income distribution today necessarily provides the same economic capacity it did decades ago.

This episode establishes four concepts that will guide the rest of the series: income, purchasing power, assets, and wealth.

The objective is not to argue against wealth or prescribe an economic policy. It is to understand the relationships before reaching conclusions about them.

    Next episode:

What Can Your Income Buy? examines the relationship between median household income and housing-price growth.
