In Part 1 of our 2 part episode we talk to Sameerah (Sam) Dane. We talk about women in martial arts and fostering an inclusive and welcoming community in an intimidating sport for women to get into. We also talk about Sam and her husband Eric. We get in depth about old school courtship, chance encounters in meeting, working at Hot Topic, personal and couples mental health journeys, being married to an addict, being with someone in active addiction, and helping a loved one get and stay clean. Sam is a kind and caring soul on and off the mats and one of the most genuine people we have ever had the opportunity to be friends with. Sam brings a unique perspective to martial arts and to the podcast.

Jim Lopresti is a new teammate, friend and a professional therapist. He talks to us about his own struggles with anxiety and mental health and gives his perspective on why BJJ is an effective mental health tool. Jim is all smiles on and off the mats and shares his positive and hopeful perspective with the Post Trauma boys. We could have talked with Jim for hours, expect to see him again soon! Also P.S. we're still amateurs so the cameras were a little Wonky this show. Our bad, we'll get this right eventually.

Dave is a retired Navy vet of 25 years, a firefighter and an active member of the veterans community in Pittsburgh. He shares his story of service both in and out of the military. He shares powerful perspectives about how community engagement and storytelling play an important role in the healing process for veterans returning from war. Dave is also the president of the Warriors Hockey program, a national organization serving veterans and creating community through the sport of Hockey. We were honored to host Dave, and we're stoked to share his story. Thank you, Dave!
