For over 20 years, I thought I was coaching. I got great feedback and plenty of repeat clients. But I was really advising: giving people answers instead of building their ability to find their own. In this episode, I make that confession and explain why the difference matters. An advisor helps you make a better decision. A coach helps you get better at deciding. I also talk about who gets left out of coaching. Too often it’s reserved for wealthy individuals and senior executives whose companies pay for it. Meanwhile, the people under the most pressure rarely have anyone asking them the questions that help them grow. These are the people caring for kids and aging parents, carrying career stress, and often the first in their families to do what they’re doing. In this episode: -My confession: why I was advising, not coaching -Coaching vs. advising vs. mentoring vs. therapy -Why the gap isn’t information, it’s insight and follow-through -How culture, cost, and convenience wear us down -Democratizing coaching, and why I built an AI coach designed to build agency, not dependency -Why “no guilt, no shame” accountability changes behavior -Using AI to make us more human, not less Remember: don’t let culture, cost, and convenience ruin your health. #HealthyAndBlack #Coaching #BlackHealth #Agency #AICoaching #HealthEquity #EmotionalIntelligence #Wellness #QonsciousHealth
