Jesus taught his followers to pray in a way that expresses respect for God, asks him for what we need, seeks forgiveness, and asks for help to do what is right.
Bible verses used in this episode:
Matthew 6:9-13
Outline:
- Addressing the Father (Matthew 6:9-10)
- Making requests of the Father (Matthew 6:11-13)
Tips for teaching children:
- The Mission Bible Class website shows how to use teaching methods that are well suited for teaching children. The following links would work well with the Lord's Prayer lesson.
- Teach the children a new way to pray. Choose a prayer method from the Mission Bible Class website.
- Choose one of these Memory Verse Activities and use it to help children memorise the Lord's Prayer.
Tips for teaching adults:
- Listen to the song, “The Lord’s Prayer” here. Challenge the class to learn this song
- Memorise the Lord’s Prayer (verse 13 can be optional – you as the teacher can decide). Take turns reciting the Lord’s Prayer as a whole, then line by line, with each person reciting the next line.
- Ask the class: “Which petition is the most difficult for you and why?” and spend some time discussing this.
- End the class with this prayer, saying it together.
