  • Episode 16: Why Did the Industrial Revolution Change the World?
    Sep 30 2026

Factories. Steam engines. Coal. Railroads. Mass production.

The Industrial Revolution is often remembered as a story about machines—but its impact went far beyond technology.

In Episode 16 of The Lived History Podcast, History Unpacked asks a much bigger question:

Why did the Industrial Revolution change the world?

Beginning in eighteenth-century Britain, we'll explore how mechanization, steam power, factories, expanding markets, transportation, and communication transformed the way people worked and lived.

We'll examine why industrialization began in Britain, how factories changed the relationship between workers and employers, and how railroads and the telegraph made the world feel smaller and faster.

But industrialization brought contradictions with it.

It created new products, opportunities, and unprecedented economic growth while also contributing to dangerous working conditions, child labor, overcrowded cities, pollution, inequality, and increasing pressure for labor reform.

And its influence didn't stop at the factory door.

Industrialization reshaped cities, social classes, politics, global trade, imperialism, warfare, the environment—and even the way people thought about time and efficiency.

The Industrial Revolution didn't simply change what humans made.

It changed what humans expected from the world around them.

And many of the systems it created still shape our lives today.

  • Episode 15: You’re a Soldier on D-Day. What Do You Do?
    Sep 23 2026

    June 6, 1944.

Before sunrise, thousands of Allied soldiers are crossing the English Channel toward the coast of Normandy.

You know the plan. You know your objective.

But you don't know what is waiting for you on the other side.

In this episode of The Lived History Podcast, you won't simply learn about D-Day—you'll experience the uncertainty of it.

Step into the boots of an American soldier approaching the beaches of Normandy and confront the kinds of decisions soldiers faced as carefully prepared plans collided with the chaos of combat.

What do you carry when every pound matters?

What do you do when the landing ramp drops?

Do you wait for orders when the plan begins falling apart—or keep moving?

And when another soldier needs help, what do you do when stopping could put your own life at risk?

Along the way, we'll explore the enormous scale of Operation Overlord, the experience of the men who participated in the invasion, and the uncertainty surrounding an operation that we now know became one of the defining moments of World War II.

Because today, we know what happened on D-Day.

    They didn't.

For them, it wasn't yet history.

It was simply June 6, 1944.

  • Episode 14: Voices of History: Sitting Bull (Tatanka Iyotake) — A Voice of the Lakota
    Sep 16 2026

Sitting Bull is one of the most recognizable Native American leaders in American history—but his story is often told through the people who fought against him.

In this episode of The Lived History Podcast, Voices of History turns toward Sitting Bull—Tatanka Iyotake, the Hunkpapa Lakota leader whose life unfolded during one of the most consequential periods in the history of the Great Plains.

This episode explores Sitting Bull not simply as a figure associated with the Battle of the Little Bighorn, but as a leader, spiritual figure, defender of his people, and human being confronting the increasing pressure of American expansion.

Drawing on Native-centered historical resources, primary sources, and the historical record, we'll follow his story from his life among the Hunkpapa Lakota through resistance to reservation confinement, the events surrounding Little Bighorn, his years in Canada, surrender, and the final years of his life.

Along the way, we'll consider a larger question:

What happens when we tell Sitting Bull's story from the perspective of the people whose homeland, culture, and way of life were at stake?

This is Voices of History: Sitting Bull — A Voice of the Lakota.
