  • Juleps, Jodhpurs, and Jocularity. The interview with Carson Kressley
    Jun 24 2026

In this episode, we interview an icon of American fashion, the one and only Carson Kressley, Gettysburg College Class of 1991. Carson came back for alumni weekend and graciously decided to come on our podcast to stroll down memory lane with two people he's never met before. We discuss college in the early 90s, fashion (of course), and keys to looking great no matter the occasion. Kurt makes a mid-show equestrian-themed cocktail with a punable name, and we sipped and shared memories of the sartorial splendor of bygone ages. And for the record, there is no reward for lost jodhpurs, but if found please let Ian know. Enjoy Carson Kressley in all his excellent eloquence.

  • Pitching in Loafers
    Apr 20 2026

We start season 4 out with our highest level guest yet! We speak with Robert Schwartz, Vice President for Enrollment and Educational Services at Gettysburg College. Robert talks about what it is like to have the hardest job in academia in one of the strangest times for higher education. He works hard on the quiz as he goes head to head with his rival in the academic division, V.P. Chat, and discusses why you will almost never see him in sneakers or a tie. Finally, we put together a pair of cocktails for him: one for his beloved soccer team and one to help him get through his first summer as VP of Enrollment. Join us for this great beginning to our 4th season of fun!

He also talks about his work on Jewish comedians in America and what draws Jewish Americans to humor. We give him a challenging quiz requiring proofs and learn about how your outfit can make or break you as both a professor and a comedian. Finally, we do our first-ever science experiment in Kurt's Cocktail Corner. Hopefully the results are reproducible!

  • Meditative Ball Watching and Collaborative Problem Solving
    Nov 25 2025

For the conclusion of our UK tour, Kurt interviews actual real graduate students, Anna Drummond Young and Eleanor Mackay of Oxford University's Physical and Theoretical Chemistry program. They talk about what it is like to actually do science as a graduate student rather than what professors always pretend science is. Anna and Eleanor take a quiz to find out how well they know each other and we talk about what geologist fashion is (despite the fact that none of us is a geologist). Finally, we drink a lumpy cocktail through a straw. What a great ending to our tour across the pond!

  • Bouncing Billiard Balls and Disney Princesses
    Oct 8 2025

As we continue our tour of the UK, we speak with Alice Thorneywork, Associate Professor of Physical Chemistry at Oxford University. Alice speaks about her research, what it is like to teach at Oxford University, and how her current career path in the sciences was largely set by a children's book. She answers a hard quiz that, perhaps, only Kurt really enjoyed and makes the case for more women in science to wear dresses (if they want to). Finally, we enjoy a refreshing drink on a scorching day to finish out our time together. Hopefully, you can grab your own refreshing drink and come along with us.

Finally, Kurt mixes a Star Wars-themed shot to drink after a hard day in the space hangar. Join us you will!

In our fashion segment, we find out why musicians wear black in concerts—and why Jocelyn chooses differently when out and about on campus. Finally, the three of us raise a glass in honor of Agnes Tyrrell. It's our most musical episode yet!
