  • Chad Buchner: Passion & Boundaries (Coaching, Burnout, & Mental Health)
    Oct 16 2026

Coaching can be incredibly rewarding, but what happens when the passion starts taking over?

In this episode of The Inner Scoreboard, I’m joined by Chad Buchner, a long-time minor hockey volunteer and an OMHA champion.

Chad opens up about the demands of volunteer coaching, the pressure surrounding tryouts, the expectations that come with winning, and the toll coaching can take on mental health and family life.

We explore why coaches often put enormous pressure on themselves, how passion can lead to burnout, and why knowing when to step back is just as important as knowing when to push forward.

Chad also shares what he hopes players take away from their time with him, and why the lessons, relationships, and community built through hockey matter far more than the scoreboard.

A valuable conversation for coaches, parents, sports organizations, and anyone who has ever struggled to balance something they love with the rest of their life.To contact Chad for on-ice development, contact NXT Level at nxtlevelptbo@gmail.com.

  • Mitch Harris: Each Shot Matters Once
    Oct 2 2026

In this episode of The Inner Scoreboard, I'm joined by Mitch Harris for a wide-ranging conversation about the mental side of performance.

Mitch grew up playing AAA hockey in Peterborough before moving into cyclocross and off-road endurance cycling, eventually competing at the elite national level. Today, he works in executive leadership and development, coaches golfers on mental regulation and emotional resilience, and is the creator of Each Shot Matters Once, a mental skills assessment for golfers.

We talk about what endurance sport can teach us about discomfort, emotional regulation, performing under pressure, and the difference between knowing a mental skill and actually being able to use it when it matters.

We also explore the similarities between athletes and executives, the psychology of golf, leadership, identity, fatherhood, and what happens when the thing you're really good at is no longer available to you.

  • Adam Summers: A Physiotherapist Lens of Injury & Recovery
    Sep 18 2026

An injury can change much more than an athlete's ability to play.

In this episode of The Inner Scoreboard, I'm joined by Adam Summers, physiotherapist and co-founder of Pulse Physio & Performance in Peterborough, Ontario. Adam has worked extensively with athletes of various ages and sports, and brings a unique perspective on what it takes to recover; not just physically, but mentally.

We talk about confidence, trust, pain, discomfort, and the challenge of knowing when to push and when to listen to your body. We also explore why two people with the same injury can have very different recovery experiences, and how someone's history can shape the way they respond to a setback.

The conversation eventually moves beyond rehabilitation into something even bigger; identity.

What happens when an injury means you may never return to the sport you love? How do you deal with the loss of an old goal? And how do you take the qualities that made that sport meaningful to you and find a new way to express them?

It's a conversation about injury, recovery, identity, confidence, and finding a way forward when the path doesn't look the way you expected.
