Five places, one county, all of it on our doorstep. Adam, Oz and Frank tour five of Lancashire's most storied spots, from a Lancaster pub tied to the road to the gallows to a ghost on a Blackpool seaside ride.

We visit the Golden Lion on Moor Lane, where tradition says the condemned stopped for a last drink. Then Turton Tower near Bolton and the Timberbottom skulls. Then Hoghton Tower, where King James I visited in 1617 and, the story goes, knighted a loin of beef. Then the ruins of Wycoller Hall and its stormy-night horseman.

Finally we head home to Blackpool, where Pleasure Beach staff lore tells of a ghost called Cloggy on the 1930s Ghost Train. Real history, legends labelled as legends, and Oz rating every haunting by one strict measure: the parking.

London, 1762. In a cramped house on Cock Lane in Smithfield, knocks and scratches surround an eleven-year-old girl. People say it's the ghost of Fanny Lynes, who died two years earlier. Through one knock for yes and two for no, she accuses the man she loved of poisoning her.

Adam takes the lads through the full story: a forbidden love, a fall-out over money, aristocrats crammed into a Smithfield bedroom, and Samuel Johnson waiting by a coffin in a Clerkenwell crypt for a knock that never comes.

Then there's a small board, a conspiracy trial and a pillory crowd that did something nobody expected. Oz wants evidence, Frank wants justice for a frightened kid, and everyone wants to know who wrote the script.

Plus Frank invents a knock code, and it gets badly out of hand.

1. A king obsessed with witchcraft. A magistrate determined to make his name. And a nine-year-old girl whose testimony sent her own mother, brother and sister to the gallows. Adam, Oz and Frank go deep on the Pendle Witch Trials.
