What do you do when you're trying everything and nothing is working? In this episode, Brad reveals the GROUNDED framework, the exact eight-step process he used to take a burned-out creator from "nothing's working" to a list of twelve solutions in under twenty minutes, so you can step out of the story, isolate the one problem you actually need to solve, and get back into action from the most optimal state possible.
"Nothing's working" is a story, and inside every story there's one small problem waiting to be solved.
KEY TAKEAWAYS:
- When you're in pain, your brain reaches for absolutes. "He always does this." "Nothing's working." It craves certainty because certainty feels like control, but an absolute is a story, and you cannot think objectively from inside a story.
- Ground yourself before you try to solve anything. Two full inhales, then one slow exhale out your mouth, or inhale for four and exhale for eight so the exhale runs longer than the inhale. A long exhale tells your body it's safe, and this is the step almost everyone skips, which is why solving from a stressed state never works.
- Ask "What IS working?" and refuse to accept "I don't know." When she finally got honest, she had a video that went viral, 1,800 people grabbing her freebie, two paid brand partnerships, and content that felt true to her. Every win you name breaks the generalization a little more and climbs you up the emotional ladder.
- Isolate the one problem and turn it into a number. "Nothing in my business is working" became "my response rate is 5% and I need it to be at least 10%." That's a fact, and facts are solvable.
- Unhook from your story by taking the outside view: what advice would you give someone else with this exact problem? Then phone a friend. "Nothing's working" pushes you into isolation, isolation builds shame, and shame keeps you from asking for help, which is how you end up with zero solutions instead of twelve.
- Narrow to your top three solutions, reconnect with your vision, express gratitude, then detach from the outcome. Without a compelling vision of the future, you're forced to focus on the problems of the past and present. And letting go of the outcome only becomes possible once you're out of the story.
