A proposito di questo titolo
Far from being uneventful, these centuries witnessed the rise and fall of empires, the spread of Greek influence, and a growing struggle over Jerusalem's priesthood.
In Part 1 of this multi-part investigation, we begin with Babylon's destruction of Jerusalem and the return of the Jewish exiles under Cyrus the Great. We examine the rebuilding of the Second Temple, the reforms of Ezra and Nehemiah, and Malachi's warnings concerning religious corruption.
Then we follow Alexander the Great's conquest of Persia, the division of his empire, and the emergence of rival Greek kingdoms. Discover how Hellenism transformed Jewish society, why the Septuagint mattered, and how Jerusalem became caught between the ambitions of foreign rulers.
Finally, we investigate Onias III and the Heliodorus incident, setting the stage for the betrayal that would change the high priesthood forever.
