Clayface explained before the new DCU movie! Who is Matt Hagen, how did Batman's shapeshifting villain become a monster, and what connects the upcoming Clayface film to Batman: The Animated Series, Batman: Caped Crusader and Creature Commandos?

With James Gunn's DC Universe introducing a new live-action Clayface, there's a tragic origin story every DC fan should understand before watching.

In this Fandom Portals character breakdown, Aaron explores Clayface's comic book origins, the differences between Matt Hagen and Basil Karlo, and the terrifying transformation seen in Batman: The Animated Series' Feat of Clay.

We examine Ronald Daggett's experimental Renuyu chemical, the psychological consequences of losing your identity, and what the upcoming DC Studios movie starring Tom Rhys Harries could borrow from the character's history.

We'll also explain how Clayface fits into the DCU timeline, including his appearance in Creature Commandos, and explore what this Batman villain can teach us about self-worth, obsession and the danger of defining ourselves through other people's expectations.

Hal Jordan's death, John Stewart's new Green Lantern oath and the controversial DCU season finale leave plenty of unanswered questions. Did Kyle Chandler's Hal Jordan deserve a better ending?

Did John Stewart actually become a better Green Lantern because of Hal, or did the Guardians, Sinestro and the Manhunters push him towards an entirely different path?

In this Fandom Portals breakdown, Aaron and Brash debate the Lanterns Season 1 finale, including Carrie's decision to kill Hal Jordan, the strange relationship between John Stewart and the Halogram, and whether the final episode was rushed. We explore Aaron Pierre's performance as John Stewart, his new Green Lantern oath, Sinestro's possible Yellow Lantern future, Noah's Manhunter programming and the choices that could shape the DCU going forward. Most importantly, we ask whether Lanterns succeeded at exploring fear, mentorship and breaking away from the expectations we inherit.

07:59 Did the Halogram Give John the Mentor He Needed?
14:43 Sinestro, Noah and the Finale's Biggest Problems

Aaron and Brash disagree about whether the Halogram represents genuine growth in Hal's character or simply gives John the mentorship he never received from the older Hal Jordan.

And with John Stewart now choosing his own path outside the Guardians' authority, could he end up repeating the same mistakes that destroyed Hal's career?

A new Street Fighter movie is coming in 2026. We analyze how casting wrestling actors like Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns could shape this video game adaptation.

The upcoming Street Fighter movie faces the challenge of balancing arcade mechanics with narrative depth. By relying on performers from the wrestling world, the production is making a specific statement about the physical intensity required for these iconic characters. This is a common hurdle for fighting game adaptations, which often struggle to balance the spectacle of the arcade cabinet with meaningful storytelling.

Reflecting on the legacy of Street Fighter 2, it is clear why this franchise holds such a strong place in childhood memories. We analyze whether this release can honor the history of the series or if it will face the same challenges as previous attempts at bringing games to theaters.Subscribe for weekly character breakdowns, and let us know in the comments if you think wrestlers are the right fit for this project.
