The Fairground Ledger: How One File Exposed a $41,200 Scam

Fear that a trusted local face stole your livelihood - sixty-three cashed checks, a waterproof file pulled from a river, and $41,200 that vanished from a county fair before anyone noticed; who was holding the ledger and why were refunds missing? What happened to the money and who engineered the scheme?

In this episode, we tell how routine accounting work and a fisherwoman’s find converged to reveal a multi-year confidence scheme at the Mercer Flats fair, following the evidence from a missing ledger to the man at the center of vendor relations and the notebook that kept the story alive.
