In December 1982, twenty-one-year-old cocktail waitress Debra Sue Carter was brutally assaulted and murdered inside her third-floor apartment in Ada, Oklahoma. The crime scene left behind fingerprints, biological fluids, and handwritten messages scrawled across the walls in nail polish.

Yet local police had no physical match.

Facing immense public pressure, detectives zeroed in on former high school baseball hero Ron Williamson, a man suffering from severe, undiagnosed schizophrenia. With no direct evidence, the state built a capital case on cellblock informants, deeply flawed microscopic hair analysis, and a rambling statement made during an active psychiatric breakdown: "I had a terrible dream... I dreamed I killed Debbie Carter."

Ron Williamson was sentenced to death. His co-defendant, Dennis Fritz, received life without parole.

In this episode of Truth Will Out, we trace the sixteen-year fight to overturn a manufactured conviction. From the windowless underground cells of Oklahoma's H-Unit to an emergency stay granted just five days before lethal injection, this is the clinical breakdown of how modern DNA testing exposed junk science, cleared two innocent men, and revealed that the real killer had been sitting on the witness stand all along.
