  • Martial Arts, Philosophy, and The Karate Kid: Roy Kamen | The Dojo Exchange Ep. 11
    Aug 11 2026

In this episode of The Dojo Exchange, I sit down with Roy Kamen, a lifelong martial artist, teacher, author, and Chief Instructor of One World Dojo.

Roy’s martial arts journey began in 1960's under his brother, Robert Mark Kamenth e creator and writer of The Karate Kid. From there, Roy’s path took him through Shotokan and deep into the traditional Okinawan Goju-Ryu system, where he trained under some of the art’s respected teachers and built a lifetime around martial arts.

But this conversation goes far beyond techniques, belts, and fighting.

We talk about the philosophy behind martial arts, the deeper meaning of kata, the relationship between mind, body, and spirit, and what it truly means to spend a lifetime walking the martial arts path.

Roy also shares his perspective on The Karate Kid, his brother’s influence, teaching, personal growth, and why martial arts can become something much deeper than simply learning how to fight.

This is a conversation about martial arts, philosophy, tradition, and the lessons that stay with us long after we leave the dojo.
