  • "The breadwinner trap almost broke us" | John Glon
    Jul 3 2026
John Glon spent a decade at GE climbing a ladder he wasn't sure he wanted to be on. He left corporate America in 2014, bet on himself, and built Great Lakes Essential Power from the ground up in Michigan.

The company grew but Covid hit hard. When the debt piled on John found himself running a business on an operating system while ignoring everything it was supposed to fix.

He was golfing and connecting. He was showing up great for everyone except his team.

From these hard lessons, he became a Bloom Growth OS coach and now works with entrepreneurs who are willing to get uncomfortable.

    What we covered:
→ How John pitched GE on letting him go independent and actually pulled it off
→ Why running a business on an operating system isn't enough if the owner's checked out
→ The difference between owner-led facilitation and having a real third party in the room
→ How the "excuse chair" followed him from a college fraternity into his marriage
→ What his 19th anniversary looked like, and why a park and a DoorDash pizza ended up being the best night they'd had.

John, thanks for sticking around after a long morning running the event. Getting to sit down after all of that and have a real conversation - that's the kind of thing that doesn't happen enough.

  • He Builds Software That Reads Your Car's Data 250 Times a Second | Dave LT
    Jun 19 2026
Dave LT works with a company that pulls data from connected cars to make roads safer: Compass IoT.

He grew up in a small corner of Australia, watching the rest of the world through a TV screen and assuming he'd never really register in it.

Self-confidence began to disappear in high school, but when he started saying yes, he learned that trying actually makes things possible.

In this episode we got into:
→ How your car sends back 250 data points a second, and what that means for safety and privacy
→ A bus crash near his home that the data saw coming long before any accident report did
→ Why he left a company he'd built to join one he believed in more
→ Building Invest Rural to connect founders with the investors they'd never meet otherwise
→ The advice he'd give his younger self: back yourself

The most capable people I meet are still fighting the voice that says they don't deserve to be there. Dave runs a company saving lives with road data and still wants to get better at trusting his own judgment... This gap is more common than any of us care to (or can) admit.

Dave, thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing with me your time and passion!

  • Is This The Best Pastry Shop in Michigan? | Bobby Blake | Bobby Blake
    Jun 12 2026
Most people know Blake's from the cider mill out in Armada, MI.

Five years ago, Bobby Blake took that heritage and launched Bakehouse 46. Today they have six locations across Metro Detroit, from Ann Arbor to Grosse Pointe, and a menu that covers cupcakes, gourmet donuts, savory pastries, bagels, and a full cafe line. They make their donuts fresh in every single store, every morning.

I invited Bobby on the show the week before our 313 Studio Launch Event because I needed to taste test what we were serving 130 guests… We ended up just recording the whole thing live!

    In the episode we covered:
→ How Bakehouse 46 grew from a cupcake concept to a full bakery and cafe operation
→ What makes the gourmet donut lineup different from the cider mill classics
→ The new savory pastry line and where that idea came from
→ Why they keep the classics on the menu alongside the monthly rotating specials

Bobby, thank you for showing up and agreeing to record last minute. Your baking speaks for itself… But you made it an awesome conversation too.
