Different Kind Of Genius - Episode 45, Covad Cafe. Ft. The BL Twins Hosted by André Kufé. 

On the forty-fifth episode we have Sam and Josh Bromley-Lynch the creators of Covad Cafe. The purpose of Covad Cafe was to re-create social connection during the isolation period. They do this by sharing a coffee (or any beverage) with their virtual customers most mornings, as well providing good music, good vibes and some 10/10 dance moves. 

Me and the boys discuss:

On the forty-fourth episode we have Quentin Walker, more commonly known as Q. Q has moved from America to Australia in pursuit of his basketball career. He now works as in real estate as a land developer and on his brand 'Walk With Me' where the purpose is to inspire the uninspired.

Different Kind Of Genius - Episode 43, Timing Is Everything. Ft. Charlton Butt. Hosted by André Kufé. 

On the forty-third episode we have Charlton Butt. Charlton grew up in Bacchus Marsh, Charlton works as a strength and conditioning coach at Royal Fitness Bacchus Marsh. Since the age of 16, Charlton has always aspired to be an American Football punter. He teamed up with an organisation called ‘ProKick’ that helps Australians get scholarships to go and play American football for an American College. Charlton has only been training to play American football for a year, but has been fortunate enough to receive a 4 year scholarship to College in Las Vegas Nevada as a punter! His Scholarship will also allow him to get a degree in Psychology as well. Charlton hopes this will allow him to continue being a mental health advocate for young men!

Different Kind Of Genius - Episode 42, Be The Change You Want To See. Ft. Luke Anderson. Hosted by André Kufé. 

On the forty-second episode we have Luke Anderson. Luke is a man who has a goal of uplifting his community. Luke has pushed the boundaries and suffered the consequences! Luke found himself in a situation where he spent 3 years in jail. Now almost a year later and he has completely spun his life around. Luke during the day works as an electrician, for his electrical company that he is part owner in. Luke also does public speaking and plays football for the South Barwon Football club. Luke already has a lot on his plate but that hasn’t stopped him from pursing his passion and creating a social enterprise company. Which means he will donate 50% of his profits back into the community! 

Luke shares with his journey; 

Luke starts off by explaining what a social enterprise is (2:47). Luke gives us some examples on how he was able to stop falling back into bad habits (6:27). Luke shares with us how he was able to reconnect with his feelings (10:17) and informs us on the importance of having a why (12:52). Luke discusses why it is important to teach emotional regulation to the youth (22:57). He then goes on highlighting the importance of stopping to appreciate the little things that life has to offer (27:27). Luke also provides us with some examples of positive psychology (35:07) and lastly, how we need to help out those who have spent time in prison to prevent them from re-offending (43:37).

Different Kind Of Genius - Episode 41, A Universal Sound. Ft. Tim Thorpe (The Local Frequency), Hosted by André Kufé. 

On the forty-first episode we have Tim Thorpe, who is the founder of an online publication called ‘The Local Frequency’. Tim a young man from Melbourne, he developed the platform for up and coming local artists from Melbourne, but his idea is now spreading throughout the rest of Victoria and Australia. Tim has his master’s in journalism and birthed his publication from an assignment he had to complete for university. Where the goal was to write up about something, he was passionate about. This created a simple goal and allowed him to write about all the good music from Melbourne’s hip hop scene. Fast-forward a few years, Now the Local Frequency provides features, premiers and exclusive interviews with artists in Australia. The publications purpose is to provide a platform to showcase Australian hip-hop, while pushing culture to redefine what Australian hip-hop is.  

Tim takes us through it what it is like to run a publication;

Tim starts us off by explaining what an online publication is (2:04), he then elaborates on how he was able to start The Local Frequency (5:50). We discuss the new job opportunities that are created in an emerging hip-hop scene (12:10) and how they focus on skills we indirectly learned from school (15:30). Tim talks about hip hop politics where we discuss artists using American Accents (21:50) and how artists are held to no standard meaning they have the ability to create whatever they choose (25:25). Tim breaks down the future of traditional media and how online medias could impact it (36:00). Lastly, Tim believes it is important to remind yourself of what makes you happy because it is likely to change (52:08).

Different Kind Of Genius - Episode 40, Detachment. Ft. Jake Putan, Hosted by André Kufé.  

On the fortieth episode we have Jake Putan. Jake is a young man from Sydney who is a professional barber and an out of the box thinker. However, these days he only chooses to cut hair sometimes, which makes sense considering he started cutting hair at the age of 16. Jake has embarked on a new journey where he has stepped away from following trends and has started questioning himself as to what he was really doing with his life. This has led to Jake travelling the world as a barber in a hope to find and create more meaningful connections. In doing so Jake has discovered that his biggest passion is emerging himself in culture and learning from others, which has brought him all the way to Geelong for a short period of time and we were lucky enough to have him come and share his story.   

Jake shares with us everything he has discovered so far;   

Jake starts us off with how he was able to find his purpose (5:47) and through utilising breath work he was able to overcome some of his life struggles (7:40). Jake shares with us the importance of fulfilling your heart and not your pocket (11:57). Jake goes on to tells us about why he quit his job in a search of freedom (16:17). He explains how you give what you get, and you get what you give (25:17). Finally, Jake tells us how he was able to master the art of rest (47:10).

Different Kind Of Genius - Episode 39, Hoodlumz. Ft. Kameron Hood, Hosted by André Kufé.  

On the thirty-ninth episode we have Kameron Hood, also known as GrimRefar. Kameron first and foremost is a father to three young children. Kameron is the creator of Hoodlumz which is an Australian film that is scheduled to be released in December and will be available on Netflix, Stan and for viewing in local cinemas. His role in the film is to produce, direct and also to act in the movie. The movie is a true story based on his Kameron’s life, the movie focuses on the struggles that he has been through and how he overcame them. Kameron hopes to inspire those going through similar struggles and wants to help provide hope for those who are struggling. He believes if you allow enough time the bad things happening will eventually turn around. However that’s not all, Kameron is also a rapper that goes by the name of GrimRefear, he currently also has an album on the way and is the founder of MBC Records and MDmedia. Unfortunately, Kameron has been diagnosed with stage 3 cancer in his brain and spine. He is not letting this stop him though from striving to achieving everything he wants too!  

Kameron shares with us his incredible journey; 

Kameron starts us off with how he wrote the movie Hoodlumz (4:27) and how he was able to start a career as an actor (15:18). Kameron also shares with us the time he spent in jail and other unfortunate life events that he has had to overcome (20:20). Kameron explains what life is like after being diagnosed with stage 3 cancer (33:08). He elaborates on how rapping helps his mental health (49:03) and shares with us one of his positive coping mechanisms and how they can be used a substitute for self-harm (57:02).

 The purpose of dkOG is to celebrate other people’s kinds of genius in a positive way.

Different Kind Of Genius - Episode 38, Chapter 2. Ft. LT21HUNDRED and Boom, Hosted by André Kufé.

On the thirty-eighth episode we have Liam King, the man behind the camera also known as LT21HUNDRED and Vince Ballesteros aka Boom.

 Today marks the start of chapter 2, almost a year has passed since we have started filming Different Kind Of Genius and we thought it would only be right to review our process and let everybody know what we are about to do next!

 Thing’s will look a bit different now we have moved into ‘Don’t Poke The Bear’ since we are no longer able to record at the previous space. But the opportunities it has presented us with are going to make dkOG so much better and we cannot wait! Thank you to everyone that supported us through the first chapter!
