IT'S NEVER OVER, JEFF BUCKLEY: Reviewed!

Hey podcast fans! And Jeff Buckley fans. We insist you all be both. You can’t be one without the other. Do you understand? Can you compute that?? What is your major malfunction numbnuts?? Ok, good, you agree?? Good. Well then. You did it and you’re here … you’re here in the world of Jeff Buckley fandom. We love that for you and we love that for us and WE LOVE THAT! WELCOME!

Okay. Sorry about all that. I didn’t mean to get so angry like Jeff Buckley singing Eternal Life, I meant to be loving and tender like Jeff Buckley singing Everybody Here Wants You. Come back to us and let us make it up to you like Jeff Buckley signing Lover You Should've Come Over And now we can pay tribute to the goat Jeff Buckley like Jeff Buckley paid tribute to the goat Leonard Cohen singing Hallelujah.

It's a CCCAH rite of passage. Hearing the boys talk about Buckley. Finally. We love him so, you know. And we have done for decades. But hey, that doesn't necessarily mean we'll love the film ... so stay tuned. Stick around. Anyone could win this one. But mainly me, I think I'd like to win this one.

The official website for the film It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley. Love the comma there, always love a well placed comma in a title: https://www.magpictures.com/jeffbuckley/

Watch the documentary in High Wycombe like Christopher advised hehe: https://www.odeon.co.uk/films/it---s-never-over--jeff-buckley/HO00008314/?cinema=915

Special FAVE MOMENT FROM THE POD RECORD note for VIP read-the-whole-show-notes-members only: The bit when my microphone cut out and then we both looked at each other realising the whole hour recording was potentially about to go to waste … and we were just like … ok whatever, let’s wrap this bad boy up hahahaha so listen out to a very air-sucked-out-of-the-room vibe for the last couple of the minutes of the pod … and questionable audio on my end lol.

RORY SCOVEL LIVE WITHOUT FEAR: Reviewed!

You did it, you’re here, you’re live without fear. Or you live without fear. Both. Let’s say you do both. Just like us. Here on this show. The triple C. The A to the H. Where we appraise for an hour. Where the culture flows freely and well because we are artists and the content is consumed and disseminated because we live in a capitalist society.

We continue to discuss art every week, whether it makes us lol (comedy) or weep (tragedy) or anything in between (probably a magazine). And as much as we continue to discuss things … we never really get to any definitive conclusions, with our most favourite finds anyway, now do we? As Alyson Stanfield said “The moment you think you understand a great work of art, it's dead for you”. Wow Alyson. You must have listened to us blathering on about stuff we like. Thank you for listening.

Anyway this week we (the boys) are discussing another stand up comedy. It’s called Rory Scovel Live Without Fear. It’s about a man called Rory … living without fear or something. This one is a hybrid of a thing. A half special half documentary, and it lives for free on YouTube. Which all the other platforms should sit up and take a bit of notice of … hear that, stupid platforms that cost a lot … FREE!

We love stand up comedy. And funny things. And laughing. Will Rory join our hall of fame of comedians we will one day see live? Our definitive answer is, of course, as always … perhaps!

Watch Rory Scovel Live Without Fear here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvXhCayQXkc

Watch Rory Scovel with my favourite opening twenty seconds of any late night stand up segment ever: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtxnPZ_na6A&t

Watch Rory Scovel talk to Mike Birbiglia about telling the truth on stage and doing abstract painting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APHjfXRnNa4

Watch Rory Scovel talk to Mike Birbiglia again but this time about his creative process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ei6i8mVagmc

Watch part 1 of Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedian documentary from 2002. A kind soul uploaded it to YouTube in parts so you can watch the whole thing if you know how to be cool and use YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmeytp9I4rI

  • S00E21 Stranger Things Finale: Special
    Jan 8 2026

    STRANGER THINGS FINALE: Reviewed!

It’s a Stranger Things finale special! We simply had to do it. Because we share a lot of things in common with Stranger Things. Ultimately, across years and years of episodes … our show is also a show about growing up. A real coming-of-age story, if you will. Just don’t ask for a numerical value of said age. And also … despite all manner of tangents and unexplored B-stories, the true meaning of both Stranger Things and the Cultural Content Consumption Hour is obviously: friendship. Awwww. So there. Eat that, haters.

Do we have any fun for you in the show notes today or what? Firstly, we have joined the internet discourse just saying all the things about the Duffer brothers. ALL THE THINGS. Well not all the things. The internet is on a mad one, as ever. We’re barely saying some of the things. Scratching the surface of some of the things. But good, we deserve our say also. On this day of all days, a week after the finale dropped … and, the day after secret episode was supposed to drop: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zrk83qt

Hahaha remember when there was supposed to be a secret album after The King of Limbs? Lol.

And also, we got to get into our feels! Love a series finale! Love some zeitgeist! And after literal *years* of hosting a cultural review show together, we love suddenly talking about the last episode of a show that we have both watched the entirety of that we have somehow never talked about before!

Welcome to … *the last special* … for now? TO BE CONTINUED!

Variety’s chat with the Duffer brothers sheds some light: https://variety.com/2026/tv/news/stranger-things-finale-is-eleven-alive-vecna-killed-rock-spinoff-1236621528/

Finn Wolfhard directed a George Harrison video. That’s 1 more song by a Beatle he’s directed a video for than any of us have so fair play mate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0d_P11B6Tg

The My Mom’s Basement boys talk about the Stranger Things with more of a vibes and details approach as opposed to our vibes, some whimsy and more vibes one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZDPGV8V3vg

Special FAVE MOMENT FROM THE POD RECORD note for VIP read-the-whole-show-notes-members only: When Christopher went in on Jonathan Byers. He called him “wet” lol. If Christopher had been a character in fictional Hawkins and given Jonathan that kind of guff on the show, he basically would have been the high school bully! Winona Ryder would have kicked his ass!! We can dream, I guess.
