A proposito di questo titolo

An eighteen-year-old girl goes on a family cruise vacation and never comes home. Anna Kepner's body was found concealed beneath a bed in her stateroom aboard the Carnival Horizon — and the person accused of killing her was sleeping in the same cabin.

This is the case that stopped the true crime world cold. Not because it happened at sea, though that's part of it. Because of who allegedly did it, how it allegedly happened, and the federal prosecution that followed — one so rare it has legal experts across the country watching every single motion filed.

Anna Kepner's accused killer is her own teenage stepbrother, Timothy Hudson, now facing federal charges of first-degree murder and aggravated sexual abuse as an adult. He has pleaded not guilty. A trial is set in Miami federal court. And the questions surrounding this case — about the family dynamics, the investigation aboard the ship, the decision to prosecute a minor in adult federal court, and whether justice will be served for Anna — are far from answered.

This podcast is your home for all of it. Deep investigative reporting. Exclusive interviews with legal analysts, behavioral experts, and people connected to the case. Full trial coverage when proceedings begin. And the kind of honest, no-nonsense breakdown you won't get anywhere else — because we've been covering this case from the beginning.

Hosted by Tony Brueski, a veteran true crime journalist, and featuring analysis from defense attorneys, former federal agents, and behavioral specialists, The Cruise Ship Murder Of Anna Kepner goes beyond the headlines to examine what happened aboard that ship, what's happening inside that courtroom, and what this case reveals about the systems that are supposed to protect people like Anna.

  • Anna Kepner: Why Is Timothy Hudson’s Plea Still Unsettled?!
    Nov 1 2026

Anna Kepner was 18 when she died aboard the Carnival Horizon in November 2025. Her stepbrother Timothy Hudson, who was 16 at the time, now faces federal charges of first-degree murder and aggravated sexual abuse. He has pleaded not guilty. As Anna’s family approaches another trial date, the court has been told that an unresolved issue is still preventing the defense from reaching a decision about a plea.

The issue is not identified in the publicly described filing. The defense requested more time, and prosecutors did not oppose the postponement. U.S. District Judge Beth Bloom set January 15, 2027, as the deadline for entering a guilty plea and January 25 as the start of the scheduled trial.

Anna’s body was found beneath a bed in the cruise ship cabin she had shared with Hudson and another teenager. The charges against Hudson arise from the government’s account of her death; they are not findings of guilt. His lawyers have also said that an unusually difficult family situation hindered their access to relatives during preparation for trial and for any required juvenile sentencing process.

Reports have compared a potential term of decades in prison with the possibility of a life sentence if Hudson is convicted. A purported plea range of 24 to 30 years has circulated, but a finalized deal with that term has not been confirmed in the public filings reviewed. Nor is the unknown issue described well enough to identify it as a family dispute, an evidentiary question, or a negotiation point.

Criminal defense attorney Bob Motta and former FBI agent Robin Dreeke join Tony Brueski to examine the options before Hudson and what each could mean for Anna’s family. The court has given both sides a date. It has not given the public an answer about what is still keeping the defense from choosing a path.

  • Anna Kepner, Sandra Birchmore and Bryan Kohberger: Whose Words Can't Be Used Against Him
    Oct 29 2026

William Farwell's words at the Sandra Birchmore trial can't be used against him. Matthew Farwell's twin testified under immunity and told the jury he was intimate with Sandra during his Stoughton police shifts.

Sandra's medical examiner testified her office never saw the apartment, and the police paperwork she received already pointed to suicide.

Anna Kepner was 18 when she died aboard the Carnival Horizon in November 2025. Her stepbrother, Timothy Hudson, was 16 and is charged as an adult with first-degree murder. He has pleaded not guilty, and he has until January 15, 2027, to change that plea or face a jury on January 25. Prosecutors say video shows him tossing Anna's phone in a trash can on the ship.

Bryan Kohberger, who checked "no" on his plea form's coercion question, claims in his petition that his lawyers coerced him.

Retired FBI special agent Robin Dreeke and defense attorney Bob Motta join me on the road to Hudson's January 15 deadline.

  • Anna Kepner's Case Could End Without a Trial If Hudson Does This
    Oct 29 2026

Lawyers for Anna Kepner's stepbrother, Timothy Hudson, say they can't advise him on pleading guilty or going to trial until one unresolved issue is out of the way. They described their own filing as "purposefully vague."

The judge has made January 15, 2027, a hard deadline for Hudson's plea. Without one, his trial begins January 25, and a conviction there carries a life sentence.

Anna died on the Carnival Horizon during her family's November 2025 trip. She was 18 and Hudson was 16. The medical examiner ruled the cause of death mechanical asphyxiation. In federal court, Hudson faces a first-degree murder charge as an adult, and he has pleaded not guilty.

Defense lawyer Bob Motta and Robin Dreeke, a retired special agent of the FBI, join me. We get into what kind of issue could stop a defense team from giving that advice, and how the run-up to January 15 could go.
