  • Episode 1 | Dr. Sandra Siegal on the history of community mental health, fee for service, and organizations you can get involved in

    Dr. Sandra Siegal is a community psychologist, registered nurse, LCPC, professor and program coordinator at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She has been a leading force in Chicago’s community mental healthcare for over three decades, serving as a director of a community mental health center in Chicago for over ten years, a clinical director of a long-term care facility for individuals with severe mental illness, and an expert mitigator on death penalty cases for the Cook County Public Defender’s office, as well as a clinician and supervisor at the Cook County Jail Women’s Justice Program. She has been certified in CBT by Dr. Aaron Beck himself and certified in REBT by a trainee of Albert Ellis. In this episode, we dive into the history of community mental healthcare in Chicago, the fee for service model and its impact on service delivery, organizations Dr. Siegal has worked with to advance social justice in Chicago, and ways you can get involved in the community.
