  • The Blast Took 3 Limbs—Not His Life | Bryan Anderson: Triple Amputee Mindset EP 71
    Nov 3 2026

One explosion changed Bryan Anderson’s body forever—but it did not get to decide the rest of his life.

In 2005, while serving in Iraq, Bryan was driving through southeast Baghdad when an explosively formed penetrator tore through his vehicle. In an instant, he lost both legs and his left hand. He was 24 years old.

What followed was not simply a physical recovery. It was a fight over identity, fear, depression, acceptance, purpose, and one question:

    WHO AM I NOW?

On this episode of The Asset Mindset Podcast, Daniel Fielding sits down with Iraq veteran and triple amputee Bryan Anderson for a raw conversation about surviving catastrophic injury, rebuilding your identity, choosing how you interpret what happens to you, and refusing to let tragedy become your entire story.

Bryan remembers the explosion in vivid detail—the flash, smoke, fire, realizing his limbs were gone, and using humor while his teammates fought to save his life.

But one of his hardest moments came later.

Months into recovery at Walter Reed, Bryan looked at himself and wondered what kind of life he could possibly have and whether anyone could love him. Fear of the unknown turned into depression, anxiety, and panic.

    Then something shifted.

Bryan realized he could keep staring backward at the life he had lost—or accept his new reality and start figuring out what was still possible.

    That decision changed everything.

    In this conversation:

    • The Iraq blast that made Bryan a triple amputee
    • What he remembers from the seconds after the explosion
    • Why another wounded teammate reminded him he wasn’t alone
    • The depression that hit months into recovery
    • Why acceptance became essential to moving forward
    • How leaving Walter Reed changed his perspective
    • Why Bryan sees the world as an “apparatus” instead of an obstacle
    • How your thoughts influence what your brain looks for
    • Why tragedy does not have to become your identity
    • Survivor’s guilt and living for those who didn’t come home
    • Why he believes most of the battle is mental
    • Why getting uncomfortable can open doors comfort never will
    • How he became an actor, stuntman, author, speaker, and advocate
    • His appearance in American Sniper and work with Gary Sinise

    Bryan’s philosophy is simple:

You do not get to choose everything that happens to you.

You do get to choose what you do with what comes next.

He explains how he learned to interrupt destructive thoughts instead of feeding them. When his mind told him nobody would love him or his future was gone, he began intentionally changing the subject—focusing on what was directly in front of him, getting outside, experiencing life, and moving forward.

Bryan’s life after injury became bigger than he could have predicted. He has acted, performed stunts, traveled, worked with wounded veterans, helped influence adaptive equipment, and found purpose through helping others see what they are still capable of.

His advice for anyone feeling stuck:

    TRY.

    Put yourself out there.

    Do something uncomfortable.

    Take the risk.

If you are rebuilding after injury, loss, trauma, disability, depression, or a life change you never asked for, this conversation is a reminder that your circumstances may change your path—but they do not have to determine your destination.

    Listen now and ask yourself:

Are you focused on what happened to you—or on what you can still build from here?

  • Nick Lavery: Shot in the Face, Built to Win | Identity, Ownership & Tribe | EP 70
    Oct 27 2026
Nick Lavery survived an AK-47 round to the face, catastrophic injuries, and some of the hardest moments imaginable. But in this conversation, the Green Beret goes deeper than combat. He talks about identity, ownership, discipline, emotional control, gratitude, the people you surround yourself with—and what it takes to keep moving forward when life changes everything.Recorded at MIC 2026, Daniel Fielding sits down with Nick Lavery for a raw conversation about human performance, resilience, leadership, personal responsibility, veteran transition, mindset, and building a life bigger than any title you hold. For years, being a Green Beret wasn’t simply what Nick did. It was who he was. That identity helped carry him through brutal injuries and the fight to return to his team. But becoming a husband, father, entrepreneur, coach, and leader forced him to confront a harder question:WHO ARE YOU WHEN THE TITLE CHANGES?Nick explains why identity cannot be built through words alone. You have to live it through action. He also challenges the idea that successful people are simply “lucky.” Luck exists—but opportunity means nothing if you are unwilling to recognize it, prepare for it, and execute when the door opens. And when things go wrong?FAILURE EQUALS DATA.Extract the lesson. Adjust. Go again. In this episode:• Why your identity should be bigger than your job, rank, or title• How to take ownership of your actions, attitude, and effort• Why you can’t always change the people around you—but you can change the people around you• Why accountability is essential to growth• Why Nick calls gratitude a “nuclear weapon” for human performance• How emotional intelligence separates high performers• Why discipline means executing even when you don’t feel like it• How calm leadership under pressure can change a team• How to turn failure into information• Why small victories compounded over time create successNick also shares one of the defining combat moments of his career: a 400-pound roadside bomb detonates, six men are wounded, an L-shaped ambush erupts, and Nick takes an AK-47 round to the face.In the middle of the chaos, he watches a Special Forces warrant officer remain almost unnaturally calm. That moment taught him something he would carry for years:Leadership is not proven when everything is easy. You may not control your past, other people, setbacks, criticism, or what happens next. But you control YOU.Your actions.Your attitude.Your effort.Nick also explains why the people around you matter. You do not need hundreds of people in your circle. You need people who tell you the truth, hold you accountable, pick you up when you fall, and push you toward who you are capable of becoming.A strong tribe can change everything. And if you’re struggling to change your life, Nick’s advice is not to reinvent yourself tomorrow.“Small victories compounded over time is how you create success.”If you are rebuilding your identity, transitioning out of the military, struggling with discipline, facing failure, questioning your purpose, or trying to become a stronger leader, this conversation is for you.Listen now and ask yourself:Who are you becoming—and do your actions, attitude, effort, and the people around you support that person?CONNECT WITH NICK LAVERY🔗 Official Linkshttps://linktr.ee/TeamMCHN🌐 https://www.precisioncomponentsllc.com/📸 https://www.instagram.com/thenicklavery/💼 https://www.linkedin.com/in/nick-lavery-a691871ba/https://www.amazon.com/Objective-Secure-Battle-Tested-Guide-Achievement/dp/057835201X/CONNECT WITH HOST DANIEL FIELDING🌐 https://theassetmindset.com▶️ https://www.youtube.com/@theassetmindset5957https://www.instagram.com/the_asset_mindset/https://www.linkedin.com/in/daniel-fielding-the-asset-mindsethttps://www.facebook.com/TheAssetMindset/https://x.com/asset_mindset📖 Book https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/The-Asset-Mindset/Daniel-Fielding/9781668035979

Four veterans. Four battles most people never see. One shared truth: rock bottom does not have to be where your story ends.Recorded at MIC 2026, this special episode of The Asset Mindset Podcast brings together Marine veteran Mike Waldron of 23rd Veteran, MFV Resources founder Daniel O’Dell, This Sober Vet Podcast host Joe Yurick, and Courtney Place Veterans Housing leader Andrew Holbert for four raw conversations about PTSD, suicide, sobriety, veteran mental health, military transition, community, purpose, identity, and rebuilding life after service.MIKE WALDRON — FROM COMBAT TRAUMA TO FUNCTIONAL MENTAL HEALTHhttps://23rdveteran.orgAfter serving in the Marine Corps and taking part in the initial invasion of Iraq, Mike Waldron came home changed. Panic attacks, isolation, emotional numbness, and years of suffering eventually led to a suicide attempt. What happened next became the foundation for 23rd Veteran.Mike shares how exercise, socialization, vulnerability, neuroscience, and facing his fears helped him rebuild his life. Today, 23rd Veteran uses a 14-week Functional Mental Health program combining exercise, group connection, exposure, and behavioral practices to help veterans reconnect.DANIEL O’DELL — “WITHOUT THE DARK, THERE IS NO LIGHT”https://mfvresources.comDaniel O’Dell describes living with severe PTSD, isolation, suicidal thoughts, tying nooses, and standing on ledges—until one message from another veteran changed the way he saw his life. That shift became fuel for MFV Resources, a nationwide database connecting military members and veterans with trusted resources across all 50 states, including housing, employment, education, financial assistance, recreation, youth programs, entrepreneurship, and more.Daniel’s message: you cannot change the past, but you can change the future.JOE YURICK — SOBRIETY, IDENTITY & FINDING YOUR MISSIONhttps://thissobervet.comJoe Yurick drank from age 14 to 40. After leaving the Army, alcohol became a way to fill the silence left by military service. Eventually, his wife gave him a choice: his family or drinking. He chose sobriety.Joe explains how therapy, support, faith, reframing, and weekly ruck marches helped him rebuild his identity. That journey became This Sober Vet Podcast, where veterans share their sobriety stories to show others that life beyond addiction can be stronger, clearer, and more purposeful. His challenge: What could you become if alcohol were no longer holding you back?ANDREW HOLBERT — HOUSING, COMMUNITY & PURPOSE AFTER SERVICEhttps://www.liveatcourtneyplace.comMarine veteran Andrew Holbert has spent roughly 15 years advocating for veterans. Through Courtney Place Veterans Housing, he helps low-income veterans access affordable housing, wraparound services, community, and meaningful human connection.Andrew explains why housing alone is not enough, why veterans need a tribe, and why simply being seen and heard can change a life.FOUR STORIES. ONE MISSION.• PTSD and veteran mental health• Suicide prevention and recovery• Sobriety and addiction• Military-to-civilian transition• Functional Mental Health• Exercise, neuroscience, and social connection• Veteran resources and support• Affordable veteran housing• Identity, purpose, faith, and serviceThese men walked different paths, but each discovered the same thing:Isolation makes the battle harder.Connection changes what is possible.Purpose gives you a reason to keep moving. If you are a veteran, military family member, first responder, leader—or anyone rebuilding after trauma, addiction, loss, or a season where you no longer recognize yourself—this conversation is for you.Listen now and ask yourself:What if the life waiting on the other side of your hardest season is stronger than the one you thought you lost?Own Your Power.CONNECT WITH HOST DANIEL FIELDINGTheAssetMindset.comhttps://www.youtube.com/@theassetmindset5957https://www.instagram.com/the_asset_mindset/
