  • 168: Conflicting Stories & Missing Pieces (Death Valley #2)
    Apr 30 2026

Research and Rabbit Holes for The Dead Files “Death Valley” (Season 2 Episode 19) which aired May 17, 2013.

This week we’re back in Death Valley Junction—but this time, we’re going deeper. Like… five days of rabbit holes deeper.

In part two of this three-part series, we leave the recap behind and dive headfirst into the history of the Amargosa Opera House and Hotel… and things get complicated fast.

We uncover the origins of the property as a 1920s mining hub built to impress investors (for a booming industry that lasted… about three years), complete with dormitories, a cafe, a general store, and—yes—an infirmary that the show barely touched on.

From there, we follow the story of how the place sat abandoned for decades before ballerina Marta Becket arrived in 1967 and quite literally adopted it—painting her own audience on the walls and performing for them when no one else showed up. (We love her. We would die for her.)

But then… things take a turn.

We dig into what may have really happened with Rich and Mary Lee—because despite what the show implies, it doesn’t seem like ghosts are the only reason they left. There are power struggles, conflicting stories, a very suspicious letter that may or may not have actually been written by Marta, and just enough missing information to make everything feel a little… off.

So, grab your refrigerator yogurt (labeled it so Terry from accounting doesn’t take it) and join us where… The Activity Continues.

This episode was recorded on March 29, 2026 and released on April 30, 2026.

    Apr 16 2026
Recapping The Dead Files “Death Valley” (Season 2 Episode 19) which aired May 17, 2013.This is the first episode in our three-part series based on this episode of The Dead Files. In this episode, we switch things up and go back to our roots—Amy watches the episode and recaps it for Megan, who comes in completely blind (and highly caffeinated). What starts as a simple desert haunting quickly turns into a “wait… what is this place?” situation. We talk about the bizarre reality of Death Valley Junction—a “town” that is basically just one property, an opera house, and a hotel sitting in the middle of nowhere. Amy Allan is immediately overwhelmed, Steve asks the important questions (and misses a few obvious ones… looking at you, Dracula nails), and we spiral into discussions about scratches, ghostly bed-sitters, and whether older skin is just out here betraying us. There are tangents (of course), including our old recording habits, late-night exhaustion, and the realization that we’ve always been like this… we’re just better at editing it now. Also: ring shots, reservoirs, and the very real possibility that this entire place is just… off. So, grab your coffee (before we have to take another break to refill it) and join us where… The Activity Continues. • 166: Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker Headache
    Apr 2 2026
This week we’re recapping The Dead Files “Buried” (Season 14, Episode 11) which originally aired February 3, 2023. Amy and Megan close out their Ohio series with a case that somehow includes: teachers recommending paranormal investigators, a basement ghost who apparently runs a burial service, and one very stressed nine-year-old who just wants to go back to being a “playful boy.” Along the way, we discuss the truly wild moment when Kingston’s teachers tell his mom she should call The Dead Files, debate whether ghost kids are ever a good sign (spoiler: absolutely not), and wonder why Steve always asks clients if they’ve been “taking any weed.” We also tackle the real mysteries of the episode, like why the show suddenly discovered drone shots, why Word absolutely refuses to learn how to spell Steve DiSchiavi, and how a ghost can apparently keep burying the same victim over and over while yelling “stay dead.” Plus: woodpecker headaches, ghost LEGO buddies, purse-strap demonstrations, basement dread, and a brief but passionate discussion about woodpeckers that absolutely nobody asked for. PonderIf a ghost is trying to keep their victim quiet by repeatedly burying them in the basement… does that mean the haunting is less about revenge and more about covering up a crime that refuses to stay buried?WitnessBoth Amy and Megan try to explain things that they have no business explaining.Weigh-InIf your child’s teachers told you they think your kid is seeing ghosts… and suggested you call paranormal investigators…would you be relieved someone believes them, or immediately start looking for a new school? So grab your bird-watching book and join us where…The Activity Continues. Content Warning: In this episode we mention child death in history (fire), so please consider before listening. Recapping The Dead Files “Demon War” (Season 4 Episode 4) which aired August 2, 2014. There are demons. There are bat faces. There is a mirror moment that made us deeply uncomfortable. And yes, Steve is once again diggin’ tru the archives. But what we really found ourselves talking about? The baby. When a toddler becomes central to a paranormal narrative, things get complicated. We explore the historical threads Steve uncovers, the emotional energy inside the home, and how quickly folklore imagery can escalate when fear enters the chat. Also: math gets us again. As always, we balance curiosity with compassion… and maybe just a little healthy skepticism.Observe: Amy attempting to pronounce “qigong” (chee-gong) without Googling it first.Ponder: How do you even make an appointment for a child exorcism… and is it covered by insurance?Weigh-In: How do you feel about adults calling each other “baby”? Better or worse than “lover”? So, grab your bat-faced demon sketchpad and join us where… The Activity Continues. • 162: Fifty Bad Dead People…in the Middle of Nowhere
    Feb 5 2026

Recapping The Dead Files “Satan’s Revenge” (Season 4 Episode 5) which aired August 9, 2014.

In this episode of The Activity Continues, we dig into one of the most intense episodes of The Dead Files yet. This was a listener request from long-time supporter, Zoey! Thank you Zoey!

Steve and Amy travel to rural Michigan to help a family whose dream home has become a waking nightmare. What begins as reports of footsteps, shadow figures, and unexplained injuries quickly escalates into something far darker. The basement of this home appears to be holding dozens of hostile, negative entities, including a powerful shadow figure with violent intentions.

As the investigation unfolds, we talk about:

    · A terrifying concentration of negative spirits in one location

    · Physical injuries, scratches, and life-altering accidents

    · Trauma, PTSD, and how past abuse may intersect with paranormal experiences

    · The psychological vs. paranormal question (and where it breaks down)

    · Why doors, stairs, and basements are never just architectural features on The Dead Files

    · Also don’t forget the side quests: Minnesota weather, headaches, and sleep socks (yes or no?)

It’s disturbing. It’s emotional. And it raises one big question:

How the hell do you end up with fifty bad dead people in your basement?

So, grab your footie jammies, and join us where… The Activity Continues.

  • 161: Am I Crazy? Or Is This a Cover-Up?
    Jan 22 2026
Recapping The Dead Files “Am I Crazy?” (Season 1 Episode 6) which aired 2011. This week, we kick off Season 7 by revisiting “Am I Crazy?”, a case that asks a familiar question with an uncomfortable twist: is the homeowner losing her grip on reality, or uncovering a long-buried truth no one wanted exposed? In Great Falls, Montana, Kelly believes she’s being contacted by the spirit of Valeria Gibson, a woman erased from the historical record and dismissed in death as “hysterical.”Through dreams, intuition, and a growing pile of unsettling clues, Kelly uncovers a story that doesn’t match the official version, and medium Amy Allan corroborates that story. As Steve Dischiavi digs for missing blueprints, vanished records, and suspicious inconsistencies, a pattern emerges: when women tell the truth, history has a habit of calling them unstable. But three women—Valeria, Kelly, and Amy—tell the same story across time. She’s not crazy. She’s just not being believed. So… is this a haunting? A cover-up? Or both? So, grab your Nespresso, and join us where… The Activity Continues. Content Warning:We didn’t find anything we thought deserved a content warning, but we will use colorful language.
